BLADE Chapter One Emiliana's POV At the moment, the only thing on my mind was how to get out of this tight, exposing, goddamn wedding dress. The driver pulled over at a huge mansion. The bodyguards alighted and opened the car door for us. I stepped down and turned back, expecting my husband to step out of the car but he stepped out from the other side and slammed the door shut. I was startled by his action. Then he began to walk inside without waiting for me.

I noticed the group of birds flying towards our direction like they were being chased. "They are close" Dana said and in a blink of an eye, she'd undressed and shifted into a big black panther with startling green eyes.

Alpha Ravens POV I slowly feel myself waking up but my head feels heavy like I have a boulder sitting on top of it. I flutter my eyes open and I am only met with total darkness. I seem to be sitting in a large cage. But looking through the bars of the cage it seems that I am sitting in a dungeon. I’m not sure why but the smell of this place seems very familiar. And over to my right I can hear what sounds like a small stream or water trickling down the rocks and that is when I realize why this place feels so familiar to me. “Are you my boyfriend or my bodyguard?” He held his ring in front of me, my eyes were magnetized by the intricate carvings on it. “Guardian angel, remember?” He straightened up on his seat, and in a louder than necessary voice, he said, “And unlike the last one you had, I have a sword, not a halo. And my wings are black, not white. It’s time they realized who they will have a problem with the next time they hurt even a single hair in your body!” My eyes widened at him. He took my hand in his again, and then he bent down to kiss my fingers once again. “I love you, angel.” He didn’t even whisper that. I was sure many people around us heard everything he said.

"Oh no... no... no..." Somira screamed at the sight of what was ahead of them when she sized the view through the windscreen. Quickly, she freed Innosine's shirt from her grip and used her palms rather to cover her face, so she could no longer sight any view of hers again. Something heavy slammed against the floor across the gym. Bjorn and I both turned toward the sound. For a moment I assumed someone had knocked over a piece of equipment. Then I saw her. The girl stood frozen near the far wall. And behind her— Wings. Not just wings. Angel wings. But nothing like the ones I had seen before. They were enormous, feathers darker than midnight, the surface catching the overhead lights with a faint blue iridescence when they shifted. The air around them still rippled from the force of their sudden appearance.

She dived, her golden cannon charging for another shot. "You are a 'High-Value Asset,' Elara!" she screamed, her corporate mask finally cracking into pure, unadulterated rage. "You do not have the 'Permission' to die on your own terms!" Before she could fire, a shadow swept over the bridge. It wasn't a cloud. It was a fleet of rusted, 1990s-era fighter jets—F-15 Eagles—roaring out of the fog. They were the "Air-Wing" of the Iron Vault, piloted by the men and women who had refused to be uploaded.

Her lids had already begun to half close and Damascus could feel that their time together on this Earth was coming to an end. Before Damascus could react, a dark shadow emerged out of the trees and crossed the highway. Damascus had tried to slow down too quickly for the speed that he was going and the 321-horsepower beast beneath him began a deadly wobble. The death wobble so they called it. Damascus attempted to keep control but in the end the machine did what it wanted and flew. Ejecting its rider in the process.

Seven’s own gigantic wings were also unfurled to their full, awe-inspiring breadth as he battled with another creature. His sharp wings tore through its rotten flesh with the same ease as a hot knife through butter, splattering thick arcs of black ichor across the blood-stained floor. Yet even as he sliced through his opponent with ferocious efficiency, a sharp cut pierced his wing from joint to tip. Blood welled from the grievous wound, each beat of his mighty pinions sending a fresh spray of droplets through the air. He was bleeding profusely from the deep wound and new drops sprayed into the air every time he moved them.

" They hopped in their car and peeled out, leaving me alone outside the venue. The wind bit into me. I tugged my coat closer and waved down a cab home. All my stuff had been thrown outside, dumped across the doorstep like garbage. The maid looked sorry as she said, "Mr. and Mrs. Swain told me you have to leave and never come back." I didn't charge in to yell at them. I just packed up quietly, then walked away with my things. That very night, I got on a plane out of town, heading to a hidden research base run by the National Space Agency. Just before I left, I texted everyone, "I, Wanda Swain, am officially done with the Swains for good and by choice."
