"Now shut up and kiss me." The next thing we heard through the crack in the door was the disgusting, wet sound of them heavily making out right against the hallway wall. A second later, their room door clicked open, their footsteps moved inside, and the heavy door of room 304 slammed completely shut. The hallway went totally dead silent. It didn't just get louder; it became clearer, more vibrant, more amused. I panic-pressed the "Volume Down" button. The laugh receded, dropping into a deep, guttural rumble that vibrated against the floorboards. It was tracking the volume control perfectly. Instantly, the world completely vanished. The suffocating smell of dust and old metal was gone in a single heartbeat. The heavy, rhythmic thud-thud-thud of the ship's engine cut off entirely, replaced by a profound, disorienting silence.
