(Today, we are going to study ' the letter'). Some of us jotted down the topic for the day in our notebooks. "Quelqu'un peut-il expliquer ce qu'est une lettre?" (Can someone explain what a letter is?)

I was prepared for life in the big city, but nothing can prepare a girl for anything like real life itself. In fantasy books, the warrior princess knows how much food she will take with her. What sort of monsters she will slay. Should she trust the witch or burn her? Letters began to form as the light shone on the paper. Lexi and I sat down and patiently waited as Lexa wrote the letters in her palm. When she was done, she showed the six words she wrote. “You are my perfect love story,” we all read the words aloud together. We felt guilty for reading the secret code, but we were thankful for Angela’s message to Sky. Frank finding Lexa and me being with Lexi, this is a perfect love story. Our love story.

They turned. One book had slid forward half an inch. An old volume of poetry neither remembered buying. Ethan rose. Walked to the shelf. Pulled the book free. Inside, pressed between pages eighty seven and eighty eight, a single sheet. Their daughter's handwriting. Age twelve. A letter she had never sent. Dear Mama and Papa, I like it here. Steven pushed the book back to the doctor like they were all on cue they all dove into the book to read. Their heads snapped back up to stare at him, eyes almost falling off their sockets. "What!" Steven had mouthed the word and he saw them shake their heads in unison, Steven guessed they read his lips since it was just a single word.

I mean, look at the cheesy letters I send you. ( I smacked my forehead again. I hope this isn't going to be a regular thing for me). And I have a little assignment for you. I wandered through the aisles, running my fingers along the spines, feeling a sense of belonging I hadn't felt in a long time. I spent the whole day there, completely lost among the books, reading story after story until I lost track of time. One book caught my attention "The Adventures of Sir Flufftail" a ridiculous but absolutely hilarious story about a brave and very dramatic rabbit knight who went on quests to save stolen carrot cakes from mischievous squirrels.
