I heard him groan and quickly added, “you said you’d help.” He let out an exasperated sigh and settled on the seat beside me. “Just know, I’m a very bad teacher.” If he was hoping I would bail, he thought wrong. “I take my chances.” Phraser pulled the book towards him and dropped his gaze as he began to read. He hasn’t even finished the first page when a group of girls came to our table and looked at him expectantly. “Hi, Phraser,” said one of the girls. Phraser tore his attention from the book and looked up at the mention of his name. “You know, Prof. Milford told us to come to you for help. Do you mind helping us with our studies?”

I just ignored all those comments completely and focused my attention on the book I had brought with me, trying to get lost in my reading so I wouldn’t have to think about what other people were saying. A few minutes later, our teacher arrived. He was in his late thirties, and as he walked into the room, he looked around at all the students. When his eyes met mine, a small smile appeared on his face, as he placed his things down on the desk at the front of the class. "I see we have a new student joining us today. How about you come up here and introduce yourself to everyone, Miss…" he paused for a moment, looking down at the paper he was holding. "Ynnah Francine Seung."

It was so embarrassing to have such a massive crush on her professor, especially one that had outlasted early hero worship and turned into a raging case of lust that three years had done nothing to dissipate. The students each chose a picture book and read quietly. Jonathan sat by the window, focused on reading a picture book about the world of wild animals, when Teacher Ria walked over and sat beside him, asking kindly. “What are you reading, Jonathan?” Jonathan looked up and excitedly held the book cover toward her. “I am reading about the animal world. It says here that in the A****n rainforest there are pythons that are dozens of meters long. It is really fascinating.” The teacher smiled and affectionately patted Jonathan’s head.

"Take your seats, we’ll get started in just a moment." Blake and I walked to an empty row near the back of the class. He sat down quickly, making himself comfortable, and I followed his lead, sitting next to him. I could feel the eyes of a few students on me, but I tried to ignore it and focus on the teacher. "Today, we’re going to be discussing a piece of classic literature," the teacher continued. "I’m Mrs. Carter, by the way. I know some of you are new, so if you need any help, feel free to ask."
