“Our eyes can be damaged.” Quan ran to the window to see something, then seconds later returned to her father's side. “Look, our neighbors saw the eclipse too!” Quan whined. “They carry a tub filled with water and wear strange glasses.” Suddenly Gan approached and sat in one of the other chairs. He put the book he had read on the table. “They just act brave, little sister,” Gan said softly. “Long time ago, someone saw a solar eclipse directly and you know what happened after that?”

The victory at the Silver Basin didn't feel like a celebration. It felt like a long, exhausted sigh. As the sun climbed higher, the "Lunar Eclipse" vanished completely, but the world it left behind was scarred. The valley was littered with broken armor, shattered ladders, and the deep craters where Elias’s silver light had struck the earth.

He shouts and Lilian, who would not run lest she sweat or trip over her dress, does so.
