PART I Rebirth August—September, 1876 CHAPTER ONE Shadows in the Sky I was still mortal, the night it all began. My dreams were still my own. I still believed what my parents told me. My sister Gladys and I were on our way to a ball, riding in a coach over a bumpy road. Outside, the grassy English countryside passed us by, a dark sky warning us of a coming storm. Pearly white fog licked the windows, its curious tendrils threatening to creep inside.

"CRASH...!!!" A loud sound was heard and I ran to my window facing my balcony. I saw a hanging broken branch from my old tree, the same branch I perched on earlier to jump over and leaves scattered around on the ground but I don't seem to see anyone at all. Henry stared with fascination at the crystal castle and its unique architecture, it was large, and built directly on the forest lands without any grooves nor water streams surrounding it, it towers almost scraping the sky, the walls made of the finest crystal emerging directly from the ground without the stony base, shining with their own light, there were no signs of a gate or any windows on the castle, making it appear like a giant flawless diamond with perfect cuts, and for a second, he couldn’t believe he just gave an order to rain it down with fire and ice spears, not until they started colliding with the flawless walls.

His gaze shifted towards the girl's window, hoping for another glimpse, a sign that would guide him towards his destiny, but he couldn't find her anymore. Little did he know that the intricate tapestry of fate was weaving its threads, intertwining his own search for love with the girl's quest for freedom. Obviously replacing the centuries-old windows in the castle with double-pane glass was the last thing on my dad's mind during his time as Alpha. Jeb and his crew began to pick up their tools, murmuring to each other as they did so. I turned to Gemma, who was watching them work with deep-set dark circles beneath her eyes. "Did you sleep at all?" I asked. She shook her head, her green eyes glossed over from lack of sleep. "Where is everyone?" "Everyone's cleaning up. The servant's hall in the attic got the worst of the damage. We're on our own for breakfast," she said, yawning.

David looked back to where his sisters were standing, clear about the situation. “Need help? Rose asked, her smile telling something else. Kate nodded. The other three burst into laughter. Finally, these acknowledge their presence. Otherwise, they acted like only two of them were there. “So finally, you two need us” Rose let out her tongue and made a funny face at them. She walked forward, Nina and Rose together, and opened the door with a hard push. David walked inside with Kate in his arms. The beauty of the castle stunned everyone. One, two, three. I smashed the chair against the glass again. The chair broke completely again but the glass had also broken a bit in the middle. I was out of chairs so I used my foot to finish the job. When I had completely broken through the window I used one of the sticks to smoothen the edges. I didn't want to get cut. When I was done with that I took one last look around the cottage, my eyes lingering on my books for a while before I took a deep breath and jumped out of the window. Then I ran. I had no idea where I was running to, but all I knew was that I didn't want to stay there anymore. I want to run away completely. Maybe back to civilization?

I looked out of the window to see the sky dark and studded with twinkling stars. A whole day had passed with me huddled up in the bed. The realisation made my muscles ache to run along the hallways of the castle and I couldn't agree more. Throwing off the blanket I stood up and marched to the door unlocking it, but froze. I needed to break the cloaking spell otherwise I was going to be tremendously drained. Pulling my magic I undid the spell and opened the glass window wide. Batting a large piece of clothing I swatted all the old air out of the window.

Inside, a fire burned in the hearth. A kettle steamed on the stove. And sitting at the table, waiting, was Mira. --- End of Chapter Sixty-Four.

She steadied me until she saw I could stand on my own, then ran to grab a long coat before slipping her arm under mine, guiding me carefully toward the door. The moment I got pushed, I shivered and looked up at the sky. For the first time since I got here, I’d let myself truly look around me. The castle was really beautiful, if you ignored how wicked the people that are inside it are. I took another deep breath letting the cold air fill my lungs before turning to Poppy. “Take me to her.”
