“You didn’t put your hands on me in the way you’re thinking. We had an argument. We disagreed. It happens in every relationship. I’m fine. Nothing happened last night.” For the first time since waking, he looked at me directly. Just for a second. Then his gaze dropped again. “Say it,” I pressed, desperate. “Say nothing happened last night.” I waited, hope flickering weakly in my chest.
