Everything was coming undone right in front of me, and there was nothing I could do about any of it. I thought about Damian standing on that screen, calm and composed, telling the world I was a tyrant while every camera in the room turned away from me to watch him instead. She gazed down at the book in her lap, her fingers tracing the intricate stitching on the cover. She had never seen such a book before, nor felt the immense power that lingered within its pages. Its tan leather cover hummed beneath her touch as her fingers curled over the edge, ready to lift the cover. Nothing. She tried to pry open the book, but it simply wouldn't budge. A golden glow enveloped her vision, and a whisper danced inside her mind. Lily.

The children are there, finishing their breakfast. Valerie crouches beside Lily, smiling. “You’re growing into a fine queen.” Lily beams. “Aunt Val, you’re an elder because you’re wise, right?” Valerie glances at me, puzzled. I shrug, curious about where this is going. “Yes,” Valerie replies, amused. Lily’s face lights up. “Then tell me, why do stars twinkle?” Valerie stares at her, taken aback. Then she grins mischievously. “They twinkle because they’re winking at me, obviously.”

Valarie felt her eyes brim with tears as she opened her arms, and Lily flung herself into them, hugging Valarie fiercely. As Valarie lifted Lily up, twirling her in circles, light laughter and bittersweet sobs erupted from her. "Lily, oh my God, you are safe! I missed you so much!" she yelled, voice thick with sobs. Following that, Lily raised her gaze to Valarie, her playful eyes dancing with happiness. "I've missed you too, Valarie," said the small voice filled with so much love.

She was not herself with that book around. Dante took the book from Willow and placed it inside his pocket. "You're making the Queen uncomfortable." He noted. "Oh! I'm sorry! I didn't mean..!" She exits the study immediately, returning to the bedroom.
