Tomorrow evening I would be back on a miserable flight to Iowa, so I might as well make some memories while I was here. I knew that Emma would probably be exhausted from partying and everything else that goes along with a wedding night, so I just grabbed a book and headed out to the beach. It was quiet on the resort, as all the guests were sleeping off the party. A tree caught my eye as I wandered toward the water, and I went to investigate. It was a funny little tree, with bunches of beautiful five petaled flowers. I picked one blossom from a branch, and held it to my nose. It was the sweetest flower I had ever smelled. I tucked one behind my ear, feeling very pretty.

The scent of pine and earth mixed with the metallic tang of my own blood as my wounds reopened but I ignored the pain, it didn't hurt as much as my heart does. When I reached the clearing, I saw the Crepe Myrtle tree blooming in the middle of the pack house. It was a symbol of our strength and unity, now a cruel reminder of my betrayal. I hesitated for a moment, memories of the promise I and Brian had made while planting the tree flooded my mind. But the image of Becca’s smirk and Brian's cold dismissal shattered any remaining sentimentality.

The journey to her cottage took them along winding roads flanked by towering trees, their branches reaching out like ancient sentinels guarding the secrets of the wilderness. From the confines of his car, Damon observed Aqua's quaint abode—a small cottage nestled at the edge of town. Gradually I was eaten up by fantasy into the world of mania to do something I would later regret. Because when darkness beguiled me, its intention would always be in the wrongest ways of living, and that obscurity scarred my bruised heart. It made me in anxiety. The balloons were huge with variety of colors. I was so amused and amazed that Brayden would actually do something like this for me.

That’s when his desperation turned to madness. He didn’t just want the book gone—he wanted the tree that birthed it destroyed. He summoned flames so fierce they licked the heavens, engulfing the tree in a sea of fire. And yet, when the smoke cleared, the tree stood unharmed. Its bark was blackened but unbroken; the only change inflicted on the book and tree was that they were pure black since then.
