And the room exploded with silver light. The mages collapsed like marionettes with cut strings. Every one of them passed out cold—but breathing. Alive. Kael dropped the ring and grabbed Elric’s arm. “She’s still fighting.” Elric nodded, his voice shaking. “And she just saved us all.” Zareth stood up, brushing dust from his coat. “This isn’t a war anymore.” Kael turned. “No?” Zareth’s eyes narrowed. “It’s an invasion.” That night, Kael went back to the well.

I spat out a mouthful of blood and winced as I turned my head toward the passenger seat. Upon seeing Keaton Rourke wedged between the airbag and the seat, I ground out, "You disabled the airbag, didn't you?" He looked at me like he wanted me dead. He ignored my question, raised an eyebrow, and smirked. "Hate to break it to you, but even with you bleeding out, Teresa will still come to me first." I hunched over in pain, clutching my stomach with both hands. My vision was blurring, and I could barely keep my eyes open, but I still had to defend Teresa Bellamy. "She is my wife. There is no way she would save you before me."

He had fallen right into Mae's trap and, without realizing it, killed my younger sister. "Damn it. So, it was you, Mae!" His eyes became bloodshot. He hurried over to check on them, only to discover that half of Naveah's face had been corroded by wolfsbane, exposing the bones underneath. Caspian was in even worse shape; his mouth was nothing but blood and ruin, and his tongue was nowhere to be seen.

I asked, my voice barely above a whisper, "And what do you fuck do you mean a prisoner? In this house? What had he done?" "We will explain everything later, you will understand what's going on. But not now. We don't have much time. Your husband will be home soon, and you really need to come with us," Ethan looked me in the eye, his expression serious. "We can't tell you why exactly...but you're the only one who can save him from his confinement." Their words sank in slowly a mixture of fear, disbelief. But I knew they were telling the truth. Just like the voice last night I could feel an urge…to do something about the situation.
