It’s his first night, nothing ever happens on the first night. And then as fast as it went, faster did it come back– that looming, menacing presence. For just ten metres away stood a hooded figure. Thomas inquired weakly, his voice hoarse. The brown wolf didn’t reply, it just stared at Thomas with cold, yellow eyes. Thomas saw no emotions in them, only hatred. He groaned, turned to his side, coughing, and spat out a mouthful of blood. He forced himself to his feet and tripped, falling back onto the ground like an anvil, too weak and too wounded to get up.

Neither option comforted me, but being the White Wolf wasn't about comfort. I would have to speak with Axton first to hear what he has to say about it. His perspective had a way of grounding me, even when I didn't want to admit it. Once I got home, I grabbed the books Axton had brought me and carefully went through them one after another. The pages were old and smelled faintly like dust and pine, probably a result of being kept in the library for decades. I read slowly at first, scanning for anything that caught my attention, then faster when the information became repetitive.

Just enough that instinct says something has moved. I step into the courtyard slowly. Guards stand where they always stand. Servants move between the kitchens and the lower halls. Residents speak in hushed clusters near the fountain. Everything appears normal, but my wolf is restless. Not aggressive, just alert. I scan the stones. Ten of them. Always ten. Always standing where Aria placed them after the Game ended. The markers of sacrifice. Memory anchors. Graves without bodies. Except, my brow furrows, something is off. I walk closer.

I couldn’t do anything without making this worse! ‘What’s going on?’ I jumped and turned around, seeing Thomas standing there. He followed me. ‘Was that Mr Wolfe?’ When I didn’t answer, I saw him putting two and two together in his head. ‘Oh my god... It's you, isn’t it?’ Fuck..

As much as Colette loved me, I loved her more, and I would protect her with my life. And that little hunter friend who seemed to be stuck to Thomas like a wart that wouldn't go away rubbed me the wrong way. Something was off about her, and until I figured it out, they were both on my shit list until further notice. And if you asked anyone about my shit list, they would tell you it's the last place you want to be. I could feel my wolf pressing against my skin. The urge to constantly shift and go for a run since Thomas moved in had only seemed to grow the longer he was around.

The wind and rain outside didn't help me, and the feeling of being watched overcame me and didn't leave me alone. I stood up and grabbed a book, the footsteps on my porch made my heart pound in my neck. I looked back and there he was, looking at me with his bright eyes and wet hair. The look that could finish me off in two seconds and his fists clenched.
