When breakfast was finally served, I pushed my food around my plate until the fairy eyed me suspiciously.
“Why the long face?” she asked, slapping a spoonful of jam onto her own pancake.
“The living book isn't helping,” I admitted. “I ask, it answers, but it makes no sense.”
She tilted her head, then shrugged. “Well, you do know the book can take you back in time, don’t you?”
I blinked. “What?”
Her eyes twinkled as she chewed. “Mhm. We don’t have one here, but everyone in the magical circles knows about the living book. It carries timelines. It doesn’t just answer, it remembers.”
