The god’s gaze—though distant—felt like it pierced straight through my soul.
Edward moved closer, his hand gripping mine tightly. “Kora. You have to answer it.”
“I don’t know what to say,” I whispered.
“Yes, you do,” he said. “You always do.”
The Heart pulsed once, steady and strong.
Drawing in a trembling breath, I raised my head toward the glowing sky. “I didn’t mean to wake you. I was trying to fix what was broken—to keep our world from falling apart.”
And in doing so, the god replied, You’ve undone the barrier that kept life from devouring itself.
