She could not stop talking about how excited she was for me to see her bedroom. The sun was setting by the time we finally reached their home. The house was far from the city, set high on a hill, and as we drove up, I could see how beautiful the surrounding homes were. It was already dark, so the streetlights and house lights lit up the area with a soft glow. Tall trees lined both sides of the road, their thick branches adding to the quiet, cold atmosphere, even though I had not stepped outside yet.

Callum growled. “Sure I do,” Zane said breezily. “I just did.” We reached a massive set of double doors, and Zane threw them open with unnecessary flair. “Welcome,” he announced, “to THE Library. Second the the biggest library in the world, just after the Alpha King’s castle. But, we should find what we need here!” Library was an understatement. It was a cathedral of books, floor-to-ceiling shelves, spiral staircases curling upward, sunlight pouring through tall windows.

Tara instinctively tried to dodge, but it was too late. A faintly sweet scent filled the air, and she inhaled several breaths before realizing. Wesley blocked the door, leaving her no choice but to retreat further into the room. Her voice was sharp with alarm. “What are you trying to do?” Wesley smirked, his laugh sinister. “What do you think?” With that, he sprayed her again several more times. Tara’s body started to feel hot, her heart racing. Her legs grew weak, and the flashing disco lights made her dizzy.

I take a look around the library hoping to find out where it was but then a crest above the door catches my eye. There is a silhouette of a wolf with a moon behind it. I had seen it before but I couldn’t place where I had seen it before. The library starts to disappear around me and my eyes spring open.

I noticed it first on a Wednesday that couldn’t decide between rain and moonlight. My snowflake sat hunched over a fortress of textbooks at the long table in our private library, hair slipping over one shoulder, mouth pursed as she gnawed on a pencil like it had personally offended her GPA.
