After it was all over, Venus sat on her throne with her winged-daughter Cupid by her side. Venus was the goddess of love and beauty, self-born from the foam of the sea, and being what she is, she enters other tales, and such is the power of her magic. Those who even speak her name fall under her spell. Those who glimpse her white shoulders and catch the perfume of her golden hair become mad with passion. Because of this, Zeus married Aphrodite to HEPHAESTUS – he wasn’t viewed as a risk because of his ugliness and deformity. Despite this marriage to Hephaestus, Aphrodite had many lovers. It was the kind of kiss that erased time, that demanded presence, that screamed of survival in a place where nothing else seemed certain. Aphrodite's hands came up trembling, clutching Vaethea's arms as if anchoring herself, pulling her closer with raw, trembling need. Vaethea felt the tremor in her touch, the silent plea for connection. Her own hands found Aphrodite's waist, holding her steady, reluctant to pull away.

V A L E N T I N A Once upon a time, there was a queen that was loved by all. She was known for her beauty and kindness. She was as mighty as a knight and as brave as a lion. They say her beauty was so bright that whoever saw her became blind. True to her name, Aphrodite; the most beautiful Greek goddess, she was indeed a sight to behold. Women were jealous of her and men lusted after her. Even though she had it all, she was not arrogant.

I touch his cheek; he leans into it, hungry for contact like a dying man is hungry for air. “If… if you do this,” he swallows, “come back to me. Please.” “I swear it.” My voice cracks. “I swear on everything I am.” His fingers slip from mine slowly, like he’s being dragged underwater. Athena, still bruised from where the Veils knocked her down, forces herself to stand. “Ivonne,” she rasps, “may the goddess guide you. And if she won’t— then may she fear you.” A shaky grin twitches at my mouth. “I like that.”
