Vera Stanhope Books Novels & Stories

She had been preparing something for months — this was apparent when Miranda arrived, from the quality of the room. Vera's study was always organized, but today it had been organized in a particular way, with one specific object at the center of the desk, everything else arranged around it. A book. Bound, thick, handwritten throughout in Vera's precise script. "Sit down," Vera said. Miranda sat. Vera stood beside the desk and looked at the book for a moment before she picked it up. Whatever the gesture was — the pause before the delivery — she had not rehearsed it. It was simply what happened when she looked at what she had made.

But Silas Vane had made one fatal mistake, he had underestimated the desperation of a woman who had already lost everything once. Verina moved toward the library, her heart hammering a frantic rhythm against her ribs that made it difficult to breathe, she reached into the hollowed out heel of her shoe and retrieved the USB drive, the small piece of plastic feeling like a jagged blade in her palm. She knew she only had a window of about twenty minutes before the head of Silas’s security, a man named Miller who had eyes like a hawk and the soul of a machine, would perform his first physical perimeter check. She walked to the large, floor to ceiling bookshelves that lined the western wall, her

Confusion muddled her own features as she stared back with a blank gaze. Slowly, the old woman got up. Then she beckoned her over as she walked away. "I can't come to the court. As you can see, I'm all bags of bones. Ha ha ha, the court might not find me authentic enough to stand as witness." Soon, they entered a room in the cottage. Shelves stacked high with books and documents filled the space. "Woah!" Veronica gaped. "There are so many books here," she said, still struck by awe.

Her cheeks were a bright pink as she bit down on her lower lip, avoiding my gaze. I started strolling towards her like a prey, my gaze fixed and my hands to my sides. If she was a spy here from another mafia she would pay, no matter how petty she was I wasn't going to spare anyone who tried to break into my home. Vera's POV I looked up to see him taking calculative strides towards me and I panicked. I began walking back, my gaze never leaving him out of fear of him doing something unexpected. Now I've gotten myself in so much trouble.

Her ranting helped her ignore the horror until she’d run out of things to blame on the coven. Chris and Brian both took down her golem. Veronica was so horrified by their actions that she’d failed to take action against them. All she needed was her bag of her workings in it. There’d been no time to search for it. Now it was lost to her, and she wanted to cry again over this. That spellbook was left for her out in those woods. She’d taken so much time to retrieve it safely. When she’d opened it, Veronica knew from the first page it was a spellbook that fit her perfectly and she’d be able to do everything she wished. Her abilities and powers would know no limit. They’d grow organically, and sh

Madam Vera was a seer and her shop was where people would go if they wanted to have their futures read, had strange dreams that needed interpretation or wanted to communicate with lost loved ones, and drawn on the glass was a flower made out of rose quartz seer stones, the ones she used to channel her power. This was the place and it made all the sense in the world that Vera would just come out of nowhere and say the things she said to her, it was because she was a seer and probably saw something about her but she wasn't there. Vera was now the key to help Molly understand what was happening to her and she wasn't there. What next?

Sophie stood off to the side, and I noticed her eyes were redder than mine. “Sir… I mean, Sean…” I gave her a small, steady smile. “Go ahead and cut the ring off.” For the next several days, Vera did not come home. What she did do, strangely enough, was send gifts, one every day without fail. She sent a foreign painting I had once liked online, a set of mineral pigments I had mentioned wanting in passing, and even a standalone mountain villa on the outskirts of the city that I had put off buying for years. Each gift arrived with a small note stuck to the back.

Rowan and I sat on the library steps reviewing Valera’s pencil marks like two people decoding a map to a larger country. Vera appeared once at a distance across the quadrangle, saw us, and did not approach. The non-approach had the feeling of a temporary calculation, not a conversion. I logged it as weather observation and returned to the page. Evening sales restored the body’s arithmetic: water, coin, dust, thank you, next. Tristan carried the crate when my shoulders began to argue. At the lodge, Bertha declared the week “excessively complete” and forced early tea. Sarel inspected my new navy notebook with approval. “Good binding. Do not waste it on soft thoughts.”

Alex concluded. "Sir, this is the first time you are playing with a woman's feelings. Hermes loved her since the day he saw Mrs. Anastasia." Alex stopped typing as he heard that. "Do not trouble the woman whom he loved until his last breath. He will never forgive you for that," Stavros firmly said.
