Vera Stanhope Books Novels & Stories

Then I push it open. Silence greets me, and if I didn't know who I was looking for, anyone could have easily mistaken the room for being empty. Vera is sitting alone at the large oak desk, her small legs dangling from the chair. A notebook lies open in front of her, nearly every page filled with neat, careful handwriting. She doesn't look up. She simply keeps writing. I watch her for a few seconds from the doorway, trying to imagine her doing something as cruel as pushing Cora down the stairs. But no matter how hard I try to make that image seem believable, my heart refuses to accept it.

“She’s nothing but a thief who sought after another’s crown. A parasite preying on a sleeping god.” If I had cared about the packs politics bullshit, they would have tasted my wrath for what they did to her. But my war isn’t with them. My war is with her, the sleeping beauty on my bed. A shark knock suddenly rattles the heavy oak door. I dart my gaze forward, my brow knitting in irritation. “Come in” The door opens and Vera walks in. For the first time in decades, her expressionless face holds a faint, rigid tension. “There’s an issue, Master Vane.”

Whether it recognized where it came from. Whether things built from dark water understood dark water when they felt it in the air. She did not slow down. Vera was visible from the edge of the clearing. A small woman — smaller than Danielle had expected from Rodrigo's description, though she understood immediately that size was entirely irrelevant to what Vera was. Eighty-one years old. Silver-haired. Standing at the far edge of the pool's stone rim with her hands at her sides and her feet planted and her face arranged into an expression that contained no fear whatsoever. Not the performed fearlessness of someone managing terror. The actual thing. The specific calm of someone who had stood at

Valerie entered the mansion, so beautiful and sophisticated it was just as she predicted, at the sitting room, There were to stair cases at both side, one for the guests and the other for the Library. Vera hopped towards the front and followed Valerie, when they reached the Library, there were hundreds of shelves, with millions of books like vera stated. She smiled and joy filled her smile, her void heart filled with happiness for once again, as she slides her fingers across the books and she furthered to pick a book, but a hand caught it instead. "This is Mira the cruellest mistress !" Vera quickly whispered, "How dare a lowly mistress comes into the sacrilegious Library of Lady Taylor and

"My prince, I am so sorry. Please excuse me. Your father, that is to say the king, ordered a rush on all things relating to the Fellstar Prophecy and because of this and well frankly the lack of seers, I have been rushing around in an attempt to have everything prepared before you got here. Which now I can see was a waste of time as I'm not even half done and you are standing right here." I laugh to myself as the young woman babbles on. "It's fine." I say. "No rush. By the looks of it, it will take me a while to read all of the ones you have here. So if you will just allow me to pick these up, is there a place I can set up to study?" "Y-y-yes" She says and points to a small nook just off the

She had was holding a small book in her hands now, a book which she gave to Gareth. “It contains my memory.” Vera smiled and parted Gareth’s cheeks, leaving a smear of red trail on them. “Please don’t die. There must be something that we can do.” “There is nothing that can be done, Leonard.” Vera said. It was difficult to distinguish the tear that calm running down from her eyes, with the sweat that covered her body. “It’s glowing again.” Cassandra said and all heads turned to the small paper that was in her hands. “What does it say?” Vera asked weakly.

When Vera stepped into her room, all she wanted to do was go to bed. But she had to have a shower. She needed to get clean before she went to sleep. She was hoping that it would relax her too. Vera didn’t have a very long shower. Just enough time to wash all the important bits. And then once Vera was dressed, she grabbed the book she bought today and then climbed into bed. She probed herself up on two pillow's and with the blankets snuggled around her, she began to read the book.

Images from the past, reminiscences from when they first met, flashbacks from the times they had spent together, and lastly images from yesterday when he raped her. Shivers ran down her spine as she remembered last night. She could still feel his lips leaving hungry kisses down her body, still feel his hands groping her breasts and touching her thighs, touching her down there, she could still hear his lustful growls. Emma closed her eyes and cried. She could still feel his touch on her body. 'You're easy to read.' More tears rolled down her cheek as she recalled his words. He had always read her exceptionally well then what happened last night?

Which tells me something about the kind of man he is. He sits in the only good chair in the room and looks at me with the assessing patience of someone reading a document he has not decided whether to sign. "Vera Vane," he says. "I have known her for thirty years." "I know." "She sat at council tables when most of the current candidates were still learning to shift. She negotiated three territorial disputes that would have become wars. She kept four packs from fracturing during the succession crisis of '09." He pauses. "She is not Darius. Darius was ambitious and careless. Vera is neither."

"For now." "For now." --- Vera arrived the next day. She'd followed our tracks, she said. Worried when we didn't return to Silver Creek. Her face was pale when she saw the state of us. "Vesper's wolves," she said. "The red eyes. I've seen them before." "Where?" I asked. Vera hesitated. Then she sat down and told us the truth. --- "I was born in Shadowfen." The words fell like stones. Vera looked older now—not the strong, steady healer I knew. A tired woman carrying a lifetime of guilt.
