“I think I might be into reading now.” “Oh, yeah?” “I’m serious!” his tone was playful. “I initially read a book cause I wanted to impress you and maybe get you to talk to me if you noticed we shared such an interest.” Alex couldn’t help but smile. “Oh? My eyes widened at what he said, “So, you sleep here too?” He chuckled, “Yes. This library is like my second bedroom.” He smiled after that. He leaned back in his chair, and after a few seconds, he looked at me. “You, do you like reading books?” I stared at him for a minute before smiling and holding the book close to me. "I do love reading books. Because every time I read the stories inside them, it's like I go to a different place, and I feel happy. I don't know why. Maybe it's because... that's one of my ways to forget the life I have..."

Elena POV The weather was cool as usual, I was in Cael's room, and he had talked me into reading a story for him. My eyes were fixed on the pages of the book as I read to Cael, my voice soft and steady, guiding him through the story like a lullaby wrapped in warmth. He lay beside me, his little fingers brushing against mine each time he turned a page. I watched his eyes light up with each word, each tale, each magical turn of the plot.

I wasn’t nervous anymore; it felt right. He felt right. I smiled, probably for the first time that night, and I began to read. He stared at me, occasionally looking away to stare outside the window at the falling snow, but his eyes always came back to me. He would brush his fingers silkily through my lips and my cheeks, sometimes my forehead, almost as if he was restraining himself. The hours ticked by as he laid there and I read to him. And in that moment, I was happy.

I couldn't deny that I quite liked his laugh. "Give it a try. It's a book for three to four-year-old kids, it'll work. The words that might be difficult for them can be worked on with exercises and activities like the ones you used before the reading... By the way, you're excellent at that," he said warmly.
