I say, trying to act casual. My friend nods, sensing my unease. "So, what brings you here today?" "I need your help," I say, getting straight to the point.

Burying my face on my mother's sick body, my eyes bled tears again, but at last, crying would never solve anything, it would never pay the bills, I needed to accept that fact. My shaking hands reached for my phone, as my swollen eyes traced down, staring at my contact. I have already called almost all of my contact list, only to realize that I have useless people numbers saved to my phone, people who would never help you in time of need, they all turned their back on me. The quote is right: Indeed in time of need, you know who your true friends are. Staring at my phone miserably, I have only two option left, only two phone numbers that I haven't reached out to.

Not as an expectation. Just… a person. Crying. Breathing. Breaking. “I need you,” I said before I could stop myself. The words froze between us. I felt him still. Completely. I pulled back slightly, just enough to look at him. “I don’t mean—” I started, but the words tangled. “I just… need someone.” My throat tightened. “Can you just be my friend?” The question felt fragile. Dangerous. Necessary. His eyes searched mine. For a long moment, he didn’t answer.

And when I didn’t respond, she sent a text right after. [ Please, just answer your phone. I’m sorry for everything, I just want to be your friend. And congratulations on your success with the company.] I decided to reply to her so she would leave me alone. [ Thank you. But I don’t need any friends right now.] That was a lie. I needed a friend. Badly. It felt like I had lost everyone and didn’t even have anyone by my side. Most times, I had this strong urge to talk to someone about what was going on in my life.

I haven't regretted it since then. Nevertheless, I forced a small smile, and admitted honestly, because lying to her felt like breaking something as fragile. “Yes, I do have a real friend,” I said and continued, “a real friend wouldn't leave you because of what you cannot give them and they know you can't. A real friend will help you in times of need, a real friend would be happy when you're happy, and sad when you're sad. A real friend is like your living diary. Who do you think deserves that title?”

“Look, if you want a friend who will be your friend anytime, find anyone except from me. There are a lot of girls who wants to be with you and I’m not one of them.” “I just can’t be your friend. I don’t know how to treat these so called friends since I don’t have ones before,” I added. What’s with him? Persuading people? Geez, this isn’t some business to deal with. My blonde hair was swayed by the wind passing by. I held it and suddenly, someone tried to block the wind by his broad body. “Friend isn’t always about how will you treat them. It’s about having someone by your side, not all the time but on times you need them and you need each other,” he responded as he was persuading me.

He's the type of friend that you want to wish all the happiness in the world to ,and also pray that he doesn't lose grip again . He needs to be constantly reassured that he's got the right support and friends who care about him so much so that they are willing to take time out of their busy schedules to help him out or talk to him. It's always the ones that seem happy that ; need our attention the most . When they are happy they are flying high and nothing can bring them down , and when they are sad they hit a low that is so deep , that it's too hard to get them out and you need to rely on professional help .

“Is there any way I can make it up to you?” I thought about what he’d said in the kitchen earlier about if I ever needed a friend. “Yeah,” I answered. “You can buy me a cup of coffee.”
