Which Jane Austen Book Should I Read First Novels & Stories

Jessa POV I woke with the opening line of Jane Austen’s *Pride and Prejudice*, or rather, the wolf shifter version, rattling in my mind. It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single Alpha in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a mate. When I was younger, I had devoured all of Austen’s books and any other romance I could get my hands on. The stories in which the young, beautiful Omega found herself forcibly bonded with the striking, brooding Alpha were once my favorite. Now, I pitied all those poor women who found themselves in that situation.

So while he stands behind me watching me, which both intimidates and excites me, I take each book out, one by one, pulling them from the bookcase, some wonderful editions of Jane Austen, Dickens, Ovid, Homer, Kundera and then 'For Whom the Bell Tolls' and, finally, Lolita. As I put Lolita on the top pile, I let out a sigh. I feel Paul slowly approach from behind me.

She reminds me that ordinary people fall in love every day, and often when they least expect it.

“Here you go. Pride and Prejudice. First edition. Just as you described.” Jasmine reached for it, but he pulled it back, his fingers brushing hers. “You know, I’ve been wondering something,” he said, his voice dropping to a low murmur. “Why does a girl like you care so much about a book? You don’t seem like the type to get worked up over something so trivial.” She glared at him, her cheeks flushing. “It’s not trivial. It’s important to me. Now, can I have it?” He took a step closer, his presence overwhelming.

I preferred to go into a staring contest with an inanimate object that to look at Asher, who I might have consciously forgotten. A book on the shelf stood out, it was inconspicuously standing out among its peers; Jane Eyre. A classic I had gotten as a gift for my eighteenth birthday from Reene, thinking of my Reene my eyes began to tear up. I hadn’t contacted any one from home since and although it was barely twelve hours since I left, I could not help thinking of them.

There are more by my blurry vision stops me from seeing them. This is my favorite book. My very favorite. I can't believe I'm touching it right now.

She wove it carefully into her hair, securing an artful twist that suggested elegance without effort. The final item waited in tissue paper, modest yet precious beyond measure. I searched for a book in one of my luggages that held the books that formed my mini library, and dug out Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. Legs crossed, shaking to an inaudible music, I flipped the pages with the interest of someone looking for a distraction. Pages turned, my eyes traveled over pages but no words registered in my head. In a desperate attempt to tune out the bang and moans and groans coming from downstairs, I placed a headphone on, and continued reading. Similar outcome, enhanced with a nerve flaring annoyance. “ That son of a bitch!” I thought, and was soon marching down the steps like the soldier who had lived on regulations and ordered ranks.

You could tell from the big shelves filled with all various genres of books from top to bottom. I was interested in reading a little bit of Jane Austen today, so I settled for Pride and Prejudice. After I had got it, I made my way out of his study. I decided to have a change of scenery today, so instead of going to my room and getting cozy there, I decided to settle down on the balcony in the sitting room. The weather was beautiful today and it was a perfect day to read outside. I just quickly went to my room and grabbed a blanket before going out to the balcony.

•Isabelle's POV• For my first class of the day, which was also my favorite, we chose Pride & Prejudice to analyze passages from. We'd also be reading it this month for the objective. We were focusing on the 1800's and the flow of Jane Austen's words.
