There was no going back now. Please let this work. I pressed the power button, and my soul almost left my body. I pressed it again and again but it was still the same thing. The screen remained blank. I wanted to burst into tears. I was going to get fired for sure.

Dread slowly settles in my chest as I click on the power button of the device but it doesn’t come on. My brows etches up in confusion as I try it again but it stays stuck. I s*ck in a sharp breath, panic rising in my throat as I frantically click on it. Blank. “No, no. Please. This can’t be happening right now.” I mumble to myself, my mind railing with the events of last night. I’d plugged it in before going to bed last night because I didn’t want this to happen. I turned away from the shelf. “The phone,” I said. Back to the reason we were here. Shane nodded, grateful for the redirect. I pulled the burner from my pocket and pressed the power button. Nothing. I pressed it again, holding it longer. Nothing. Shane held out his hand and I gave it to him. He turned it over, checking the port. “Dead,” he said. “Completely flat.” “Can you charge it?”

I called after her. “Have a nice day too and most importantly, stay out of trouble” She said, then banged the door shut I chuckled at her closing words as I made my way to my room. Before doing anything, I went straight to pick up my phone. When I turned it on, it refused to come up. I became scared. Getting a new one wasn't the issue here. The issue was that, I had failed to back up my information, despite several warnings from my launcher. Suddenly, the idea of connecting it to the power source clicked in my brain, and immediately I did so.

"Looks like it. I’ve never seen this one before. You?" I shook my head. "I searched this room top to bottom. Must’ve missed the loose tile. How the hell did you find it just stepping on it?" "Luck, I guess. Or maybe I’m just lighter on my feet than your heavy ass." He smirked but his eyes stayed serious. "It’s dead. It won’t turn on. No charge, maybe. Or it’s locked. Or both." I took the phone from him and pressed the power button. Nothing. Just a blank screen. I flipped it over, checking the ports. "Could be the battery’s fucked. Or she drained it on purpose."

I’ve read about them.” He nods his head “We’ll it’s not difficult to get a hang of it.” He asks me to take it out of the box then launches into an explanation “First things first — let’s turn it on. Look for a button on the side or the top. Hold it down for a few seconds. You’ll feel a little buzz, maybe see the screen light up with a logo. That means it’s waking up. If nothing happens, don’t panic — it probably just needs to charge. Plug it in for a while and try again later.
