Unfortunately the price for it was very high and had ended and destroyed many lives. We left the administration wing behind Anton in silence and marched across the area to a further set back building that looked very similar to the first one. Of course, Reese lit a cigarette, as soon as he was outdoors and only because he didn't let go of my hand, I realized that his thoughts were on me and the upcoming encounter. I left without waiting for her reply. I ran to the nearest hill point. I sat down on a bench and gasped for air. While taking long breaths, Georges' Voice echoed in my mind, "Who's your first love?" Clouds started thundering, indicating the heavy rainfall that's going to occur. But my mind was too busy to notice that warning, as it's busy reminiscing about the past. The past that holds both good and bad memories. A loud thunder followed by lightening, brought back all memories which I buried deep down in my heart.

It feels like I’m staring at a TV, I could do nothing but watch, and despite being surrounded by fire, burning furniture, and crashing roofs, I’m not hurt and everything keeps passing through me. I watch the cloaked figure take a calculating step towards the other me in fear, the sword in her hand dripping with the blood of my parents. As my attacker slowly raises the sword above her head, ready to strike, the other me throws her head back with a scream and my body is engulfed in flames. Right in front of my eyes, the flames rise from my skin into the air and form a large ball of fire. My attacker and I watch the ball in shock until it explodes with a wave of energy that sends her flying wit

“The fire was strange. Unnatural. Like the one you described… the one from when you lost your baby.” The word lost made my chest clench. I gripped the edge of a table so hard a paint jar rolled. It was happening again. Fire. Witch fire. Someone was tying threads together—threads I didn’t have time to unravel. “I need to see it,” I said. “Laila… you’re running out of time.” His eyes lowered to my cheek. “Your face—” “I know!” My voice cracked. “I know, Alex. But I have to drop the book before it consumes me. If I don’t… I die.”

The fire did not ask her to kneel. It bowed. She stepped onto the pedestal. The twin flames rose higher. Wrapped around her in spirals. The wind roared through the open walls. And every wolf in the valley howled. Not in fear. Not in loyalty. In recognition. The land remembered. The gods stirred. And the sky, The sky bled red. Mourne stood at the entrance, eyes wide. “She’s not taking the throne,” he whispered. “She’s changing it.” The fire split one last time.

The marsh beyond the hollow walls stirred as if holding its breath. She felt everything. Rowan’s fury. Lucien’s hunger. Her own rising storm. She lifted her hands—fire and frost blazing in perfect symmetry. The marsh answered. Roots erupted through the floor in long, twisting spears. Fire burst from her palms in a column of gold, but frost intertwined with it—blue-white veins snapping through the flames like ice lightning. Wolves howled as frost sealed their paws to the stone, while the fire seared the air around them.

Chapter 21: The Fractured Flame The sky burned crimson as if the heavens themselves bled for what was unfolding. Aria moved through the chaos like a blade unsheathed. Every breath was smoke, every step slick with blood, yet her senses sharpened to a razor’s edge. The rhythm of battle should have drowned her, but underneath the clash of steel and guttural war cries, she heard something else—something darker.
