The flames crashed into his shield, erupting in a flash of brilliance and warmth. Xander cried out in pain as his dark aura vanished in the explosion. There was a moment of silence. The defenders observed Xander stumbling, his figure wavering like a fading fire. However, Xander had not been vanquished. Lifting his hand, he summoned the shadows to gather again, creating a large and intimidating form. "Still ongoing!" he yelled loudly, his booming voice resonating.

Ethan spoke this time. Xander took in a sharp breath when he realized he was holding his breath. His eyes lowered to file as he turned the page only to flinch at the photo taken of Emma all bloodied as she was taken to hospital. "That motherfucker is a rogue, the right in command of Cezar," Xander growled. Cezar was their enemy. A fucking rogue brewing war against him. Red hot fury coursed through his veins. The war would be lethal. No one can save that bastard from him.

I smiled at my brave daughter. Together, the three of us placed our hands on the scepter and rose it to the sky. “Noooooo!!” Xander growled with fury. But it was too late; for the final time, we plunged the dagger into the heart. Just as the glow went out, so did the fire.

Liam, Bhakti, and Lily use a red paste and paint red crescents on Xander’s hands and feet to lead him directly to the Goddess, warding away any other gods who would want to have such a formidable warrior on their side. Sandra and Diego place the feathers of a white owl around Xander’s head, to wing his thoughts to his new home with the Mother. Xander’s mother leans over and kisses her son’s cheek one last time, tears coating her face. Devin stands by the pyre, one hand holding Xander’s. He looks at Xander’s still, pale face, as if memorizing every line. “You guys go ahead. I’m going to wait for Arya.” He doesn’t look at us while he talks, and all we can do is respect his wishes.

Xander said. I wanted to laugh. He was the one who had carefully orchestrated that big fire I got badly injured in, just so he could give the woman he loved an honorable position in the pack. He had ordered my wolf to be killed without a second thought. And despite having everything he wanted now, Xander was still playing the role of a caring mate to perfection.
