For the second time that week. Busying myself with the nth draft of the first chapter to the new manuscript I'd started I allowed the heavy beats of the drums, the sexy riffs of the guitars, and the scratchy vocals of the singer to wash over me. It was just me and the computer; the keys at my fingertips, the glow of the screen against the lenses of my glasses and the numbing music rushing through my veins. I looked at the door and saw it was my little bro, Cecil. "Then I'll do whatever it takes to get her back." I said confidently. BOOK 3: CHAPTER 1 -ELAINE- The scream clawed its way out of my throat, sharp and strangled. I ran, feet pounding against the ground, lungs burning, heart jackhammering in my chest. I didn’t dare look back. I could feel it behind me, him, his presence thick like smoke, suffocating, unrelenting. Then came the tug. My scalp burned as fingers twisted into my hair, yanking me backward with such force it stole my breath. I screamed again louder, more desperate.

"Are you going out? I put a hangover cure on the table for you. Drink it before you leave." I flung his hand aside. "I don't need it. Thanks." Before the door closed, I thought I heard the sound of a teacup smashing against the wall behind me. Shane was angry. I paused momentarily, but I did not stay and strode forward instead. I went to the design institute. I had big plans for my career when I'd first moved to this city with Shane.

Why does it feel like I can’t move to stop him but can only move to walk away? I looked at my stretched out hand and then withdrew it. Robin was out of my reach now, he had disappeared from my sight with the other lady and I felt stuck on an island. I turned around and ran, I ran as fast as I could, I should get back home and curl up in my bed, I should sleep to my heart's content now, since I looked like a wind to Robin when the other girl appeared, then why should I think he existed. I got home as quickly as I could and when I walked into the house I saw Mrs Jane making breakfast for us and she looked up in the direction of the door since I had shut it after me.
