That afternoon, my best friend, Layla, dragged me out for a farewell drink. As she raised her glass to congratulate me for finally leaving a rotten relationship, my phone vibrated. It was a call from the Council’s assistant. “You need to get back to the office, Jade. Right now.” I grabbed my coat and placed a stack of cash on the table. Layla did not ask anything. She only held my arm for a moment before saying, “Go ahead.” When I arrived at the Council, I saw many entry‑level employees crowding the corridor outside my office. They stepped aside to let me through, and their silence felt like a funeral procession.

But he held me and even comforted me until I calmed down. “Don’t do that, Zinnia.” I cursed under my breath and shook my head. I refused to start overthinking Dylan Reed of all people. “Funny seeing you here.” A voice that I knew far too well said and my entire body froze instantly. Oh no, what the hell was he doing here? Slowly, I looked up and there he was. Easton Rio, looking annoyingly attractive like always. Seriously, why do problematic men tend to have such beautiful faces?? Shouldn’t that be illegal?

I let my brown curly hair down and apply a deep red lipstick after doing a minimum makeup. I carefully place the syringe with the poison in my purse because I'm not carrying guns tonight. Before long, Easton brought the old man home. He made plans to say goodbye to his family and follow the old man to leave the sad city of Brookbourn.

"Elijahhhhhhh" I yell. I am furious. Fucking furious. "I have secured Zoe's parents" Inform Kevin. I nod and called our best hacker. As soon as he picked up the call I started speaking, "I want you to send me Elijah's contact details and his location" "I think you need to know something else too" Hacker said with hesitation. "Spill" I yell. "Elijah was in New York a week before Julian was sold" He inform me adding feul to Kevin's theory.

Shayla's hand was running through his hair as she said something about 'dusting the water droplets of' and Easton just hummed, giving her a soft smile. And then — Easton is leaning down and pressing a kiss to Shayla's cheek, stunning her ever-so-slightly as she widened her eyes once but then blinked and slid a charming smile and a flying kiss his way. I cleared my throat and stepped forward — making him aware of my presence as his eyes snapped to me. "Oh hi sorry," Easton flashed me a grin as he slid past Shayla and walked up to me,"I just got a little caught up in the whole homecoming thing. I am Easton."

“All right, let’s go!” We ran out of the house holding hands and jumped in my car. Weston had left earlier for a meeting, with a promise to see us later that night so we could all have dinner together, leaving Daniel and me the whole day to explore. Our first stop was The Grove; it was a mega outdoor mall, and Weston said it was our best bet for locking eyes on some serious stars and getting in some great shopping. Daniel and I had a blast that included one of the largest book stores I’d ever seen. Small markets, big name stores, all of it thrown together and so unlike anything in Indiana.

She said handing over the ring to me in a very beautiful case: The case alone will make Zena fall in love at an instant. She loved boes and it had a tiny little bow on top of it. This was enough to tell me I picked the right thing for her. I was beyond excited because I just had a positive feeling about tonight. I opened it to see if I was given the right thing before heading out of the store. I got into my car and drove back home to get ready for that evening. I was still bothered about who Justin might be. Why he looked like me so much and why my mom was so bothered. I wanted answers to my questions but they could all come later.
