Kalau memang mau mati, pergi saja jauh-jauh! Aku tidak mau mengurus mayatmu!” Saat itu, di tengah hamparan salju, aku hanya bisa menutup satu-satunya mata kiriku yang tersisa. Kemudian, suami yang tak pernah mencintaiku itu menggali keluar bola matanya sendiri. Putri yang tak mau mengakui aku itu berkali-kali mencoba bunuh diri, hanya demi bisa menemuiku sekali saja. Namun aku ... sudah tak lagi menantikan cinta dari mereka.

Chapter 1

Bab 1

Morning light slowly entered through the window.

May opened her eyes and stared at the ceiling. She had been awake for several minutes, but she still did not want to get out of bed.

Another day had begun.

She looked at her phone. There were several messages, but none of them could answer the question that had been in her mind for months.

**What do I really want to do with my life?**

May had many dreams.

Sometimes she wanted to study abroad. Sometimes she wanted to find a good job. Sometimes she imagined having her own business. But whenever she tried to choose one path, she became afraid that she would make the wrong decision.

She sighed and sat up.

“I need to decide soon.”

Her phone suddenly vibrated.

It was a message from Aung, a boy she had known for a long time.

**Aung:** *Are you awake?*

May smiled a little.

**May:** *Yes. Why?*

A few seconds later, another message appeared.

**Aung:** *I want to see you today. There is something I need to tell you.*

May looked at the screen.

Her heart began to beat a little faster.

**May:** *What is it?*

There was no reply.

“Why is he being so mysterious?”

She put her phone down and got ready.

When she stepped outside, the streets were already busy. People were walking quickly, cars were passing by, and shops were opening for the day.

Everyone seemed to know where they were going.

Everyone except her.

May stopped for a moment and looked at the blue sky.

She took a deep breath.

“I don't know where my future will take me…”

She smiled softly.

“But one day, I will choose my own life.”

She did not know it yet, but that morning was the beginning of everything.

And before the day ended, her life would change forever.

May arrived at the small cafe ten minutes earlier than usual.

She chose a table near the window and ordered a cup of iced coffee. Her eyes kept moving toward the door.

Aung still had not arrived.

She checked her phone.

**10:05 a.m.**

“Why did he ask me to come here if he is going to be late?”

Just as she put her phone down, the café door opened.

Aung walked inside.

He looked around and immediately noticed her. With a small smile, he walked toward the table.

“Sorry. Did you wait long?”

“Only ten minutes,” May replied.

Aung laughed. “That's already long enough.”

May smiled, but she noticed something strange about him. He looked nervous.

“You said you had something to tell me. What is it?”

Aung sat down.

For a few seconds, he said nothing.

Then he took a deep breath.

“I got accepted.”

May's eyes widened.

“Accepted? Where?”

“A university in another city.”

She stared at him.

“That’s great! Congratulations!”

“Thank you.”

But Aung did not look as happy as she expected.

“When are you leaving?” May asked.

“Next month.”

The smile on May's face slowly disappeared.

“Next month…”

“Yes.”

Neither of them spoke for a moment.

Aung looked at her carefully.

“May, I wanted to tell you before everyone else.”

“Why me?”

“Because you matter to me.”

Her heart skipped.

She looked away and pretended to be interested in her coffee.

“You should be happy,” she said quietly. “It's a good opportunity.”

“I know.”

“Then what's wrong?”

Aung smiled sadly.

“I'm afraid.”

“Afraid of what?”

“Leaving everything I know behind.”

May looked at him.

For the first time, she realized that Aung was not as confident as he always seemed.

“You're not the only one who is afraid,” she said.

“What do you mean?”

May looked out the window.

“I don't know what I'm going to do with my future either.”

Aung smiled.

“Then maybe we are both at the beginning of something new.”

May smiled back.

Neither of them knew where their paths would lead.

But that day, they made a promise.

No matter where life took them, they would never stop chasing their dreams.
