The Notebook

Mia’s POV:

I am freaking out. I can feel my skin trembling in fear. Whatever! What the heck is going on here? How did this guy come out?

“Exactly, Lau…I mean Mia, right?” His eyes sparkled in happiness. He caresses my cheek, and I feel a warm feeling, a tingling sensation in my whole being!

“Yes. How did this happen? You’re free?!”

“I think I am. You freed me!” he hugged me again. This time I let him do that. He’s been alone and trapped for fifty years. Maybe he needed a hug, but it felt so weird.

“Thank you so much! How could I ever repay you?”

I didn’t realize that I was dazing at him as he pulled back. He was like a God. Perfect in my sight. Aside from his long hair and mustache. I scanned his face and body with my eyes: his broad shoulders and muscular body registered in my mind. I couldn’t see any flaws. In fact, I can gaze at him forever without getting bored. How could such a man like him exist?

“Ahh, are you with me?” he snaps his finger on my face.

“Yeah. You’re alive!”

“Yes, I am. Just trapped inside that notebook for fifty years. But thanks to you, I am free.”

“Oh,” I actually don’t know what to say. I shook my head and slapped my face to check if I was sleeping. But that hurts, so I am wide awake.

He smiled, and I melted. Gosh! His dimples are so inviting. I think I smiled back, gaping at him with dreamy eyes. Why do I suddenly feel a strong connection with him? That’s strange. Was he using a spell? Maybe not. He’s a werewolf, not a witch. Speaking of witches!

“You said this place was a house of witches. What do you mean by that?” I asked.

“That’s right. Though I am trapped inside the notebook, I can hear the noises outside. So I know they are witches, but I don’t see them.”

“You’re wrong. This isn’t the seventies.”

Davon glanced around. It was a huge house, indeed. Maybe contrary to the cabin he used to live in back in his pack. He looked around for door. I grabbed the notebook and followed him. He was stretching his body while making his way out.

“What are you doing?”

“This is the first time I was out for fifty years. I wanted to see the moon and shift.”

“Shift? You mean turn yourself into a werewolf?”

“Yes.”

“No! You can’t do that here! If someone sees you, they’ll capture you and experiment on you. God knows what else they’ll do to you. Stay here!” I exclaimed, whispering.

Davon was ecstatic, as expected, and ran out, leaving me inside the house. I glance around and check if someone is watching us. I hope we didn’t wake anyone, or I’m screwed. I broke into the private room upstairs and freed a werewolf. Great start to get charged with a felony. I’ll spend the rest of my life in prison. Did I commit a felony?

Suddenly, Davon was dragged back inside. He couldn’t shift. He tried to run away again, but he was dragged back near the notebook until he was sucked inside.

“What just happened?!” I immediately open the notebook and flip the pages, “Davon, can you hear me? Are you still alive in there?”

The last pages wrote something.

“Yes, I can and am still trapped here. I thought I was freed, but I am not. Please don’t put me back in that room. This is the first time that someone can hear me. I beg you. Don’t let me live in the dark again.”

“You can hear me! That’s good. Okay, I won’t. But we are going to figure this out. I don’t want to lie to my best friend. She has to know, eventually, and maybe she can help you.”

“She’s a witch. She won’t help me.”

“She is not! I can assure you that. For now, I need to think this all over.”

I returned to Cheska’s room and stuffed the notebook inside my bag. Sorry, Davon, you need to stay in the dark until morning. I also need to sleep. If I let the notebook out, Cheska will see it and curse me. If she is a witch like he claimed. But I am sure she’s not. Davon must have mistaken her.

Davon’s POV:

I was waiting for Mia to open the notebook, but she didn’t, and I felt a strong urge to go out. Something is pulling me out. There were distant chatters, but it wasn’t her. Where is she? Did she put me back in that room? Oh, God! I hope not.

It’s been four hours since the last time I heard her. Perhaps she’s still at work. That is what I heard from Mia. What does she do at work? Humans in my time cultivate lands.

Some worked in they called companies, but I have no idea what they do there. Werewolves kept their distance for safety. Other packs blend in and live with the humans. They know our existence. But not all are open-minded.

Footsteps! That must be Mia. I heard the clanking of metal and her voice. If only she could listen to me. But inside the notebook, my only way to communicate with her is through writing. By telling my story, I’m glad I found her, my mate.

“Davon?” I saw the light when Mia opened the notebook and then popped out.

“Whoa! You’re free again?”

I glanced around and wondered why walls surrounded us.

“Are we in prison?”

“No. Well, we’re in the toilet. I don’t want others to see you, so I came here. But it doesn’t matter. How did you get out?”

“I don’t know.”

“Anyway, I got to go to school. You can’t go with me with that looks.”

“What’s wrong with my looks?” I check my clothes, “I think I’m wonderful.”

“Come on,” Mia said. I needed a big makeover. She said I needed new clothes since what I was wearing was inappropriate.

On our way, people started staring at me in awe. Was it their first time seeing clothes like mine? I saw people whispering at each other while their prying eyes were glued to me. But my eyes are dancing in the scene in front of me. Tall buildings, glittering lights, and what’s that amazing smell?

I stopped by a woman who was cooking incredibly. Mia said it was a waffle and bought one for me with cheese and chocolate bits. It was soft, sweet, and oozing with flavor. I ate ten.

Mia took me to a cheap store, as she called it. I wasn’t sure what she was talking about until I saw a man enter the store. He was wearing jeans and a cotton shirt, as per Mia, while I wore clothes made by my Omegas out of animal skin and plant fiber.

She suggests cutting my hair. I have shoulder-length hair, and I’m used to it. It would have been longer if I was not stuck in an enchantment. Mia points to the men with short hair. She said it was clean-cut and it would suit me.

“Nope! I’m keeping my hair,” I firmly said. Mia opted for my haircut but shaved my beard clean and tied my hair.

After our short rendezvous, Mia went to school and couldn’t go with her. That is fine with me. I can come back after her school. I have to find my pack.

“Do you think they are still there? Davon, this is not the same place as before. Everything changed, and there are a lot of bad people out there. You could get yourself into trouble. So stay out of sight and keep your wolf in,” Mia warned worriedly. I am fully aware not to shapeshift in front of people. Despite being trapped in the notebook, I am well acquainted with humans.

“I have to try. I know the world changes over time while I am inside the notebook, but I have to adapt somehow, and this is the best start. Thanks to you, Mia.”

“Do you know the way back here? You might get lost.”

“Werewolves are trackers, do not worry. I will always find my way back to you. Keep the notebook.”
