Alpha Abaddon

Sweat drips down my back, stinging the open cuts that are taking forever to heal and I'm fairly sure my right shoulder is dislocated, but Levi, the third ranked warrior in my class, is still standing and my father will not accept anything less than first place, even during training, so I grit my teeth and force myself into position. Levi growls in frustration, he's panting, drenched in sweat and desperate to prove his worth by taking down the future Alpha. "Come on, Abs, stop playing with him, I'm hungry." Gene, my best friend and the only other person that knows my father insists I ingest wolfsbane twice a week, calls out to me. "You're always hungry." I laugh, so used to the pain that my voice comes out cocky and natural. Levi grunts as he gets into position, his back bent, legs apart, arms out. Gene has a secret, I've known for a while but just assumed he had an embarrassing crush or something.  Maybe she's too young or too old, maybe it's a guy or someone already mated. Who knows, I haven't pushed him, knowing he'll tell me if he wants me to know, but an uncomfortable feeling has begun building in my stomach while watching him exchange conspiratol looks with Seraphina.  He's definitely talking to someone over mindlink and so is she. They're both pretending to be involved in something else, but it's obvious by the way they keep glancing at one another that they're talking privately, and, by the little smiles they've got on their faces, I'd say they get on well. Gene started acting weird during training, so when he said he had to be somewhere straight after then ran off before I could ask him anything about it, I followed him. From enough of a distance that he wouldn't realise if he was checking, but he's being sloppy anyway, rushing towards the old quarry and I suddenly wonder if he's meeting someone here. Maybe this mystery mate he's hiding from me.Unfamiliar emotions course through me when I see him talking to Seraphina, the strongest one is the one telling me to run in there and slash his throat, which I've never had towards him, he's my best friend, closer to me than my half brother and she's nothing to me, we've barely spoken before. Sure I've always thought she was beautiful, but she was always too good for me, too kind, too pure, right up until she found those girls and then she became a pain in my ass.

There’s screaming and sobbing when I come to. Gene is pulling me upright, shaking me and calling my name in a panic. My body hurts, far more than I remember it hurting before but it takes seeing Seraphina completely covered in blood, Levi trying to talk to her and stop her screaming for her dad, to remember what was going on. I try to scramble to my feet, looking around and seeing the dead bodies of the six rogues, the closest one to me is barely recognisable, torn apart. “Did you do this?” I ask Gene, falling back onto my ass. He looks at me in confusion, but doesn’t get a chance to say anything because Seraphina’s dad is bursting through the woods and gathering her into his arms. My father and his warriors follow closely behind, his eyes falling on me and narrowing, lips thin as he sees Levi come to support me

I wanted to chase after Seraphina at lunchtime, Tasha was doing a weird possessive thing and trying to make a point that I belong to her.
