Everything before them looked like the macabre ruins left behind after the fall of gods. Countless massive fragments of golden metal floated silently in the vacuum; some shards were larger than skyscrapers back on Earth. And weaving through this golden debris was a suffocating, dark violet mist—the physical manifestation of the "Abyss." It clung to the dead planet like a living, viscous spiderweb.

I could hear the faint, distant screams of the earth itself as it was unmade. I felt the three bonds of my Mates surge—Thane’s fierce protective fire, Kaelen’s calculating brilliance, and Jace’s silent, lethal speed. We were no longer just a pack of outcasts; we were the only thing standing between the world and the void. My flesh split open, oozed blood, scabbed over, then cracked open again. But I couldn't move. My consciousness began to slip away as my body burned. Then, I slipped into endless darkness.

The little boy's body began to dissolve into black smoke. "No!" Kael lunged forward. His fingers brushed the child's hand for only an instant before the darkness pulled him away. The King of the Abyss smiled. "You cannot save someone who has already surrendered." Rhydian refused to stop running. "There is always a choice!" He leaped across the widening chasm as the memory collapsed beneath his feet. The ground shattered into endless darkness. The burned village disappeared. The sky broke apart like cracked glass. Lucien's soul was collapsing.

His father had completely abandoned us. “Papa…” he whispered, and to my ears, he sounded like a little boy desperately searching for his father beyond the tall, heavy walls. Tears rolled down my cheeks as I held him even tighter. “I am here, and I will never leave you. Mama is here, just like before.” We both cried as our hearts shattered into pieces.
