Beneath The Mask
He relaxes, his walls coming down, and for once, he laughs freely, joking around with me as if the darkness that’s always clung to him doesn’t exist.
I soak it all in, every second, every smile, every laugh. Deep down, I know this won’t last. Once we’re released, he’ll go back to pretending, hiding behind the mask he’s worn for so long. He’ll run back to the safety of denial, and I’ll let him. I meant what I said—I won’t chase him once we’re out of here.
But I am going to take a trip to that hellhole they sent him to, Ivorygate, and I’ll make damn sure it burns to the ground. They’ll never hurt him—or anyone else—again.
