I act like all is well. I just sit and laugh while the three of them make me the butt of their jokes. They make fun of me being a pussy. They jump around me, clucking and flapping their arms to emphasize how I'm such a chicken. I don't mind, as long as it keeps Thor sane and entertained. He jokes. I reach over and slap his chest, “Since when did we get a pool boy, and is he hot?” I joke back. “Why you....” He turns and tickles me as I kick my feet and call out Uncle. There’s a knock on the door, and Merrick walks in, “I’m hearing fun being had in here but never got an invite.” He pouts playfully, and Knox being the friend that he is and shares his toys, takes hold of me from behind and spreads my legs, offering me to his best friend.

After the first five rings, Kyle took my phone from me and switched it off. I was seated on the couch, Kyle beside me. I stared blankly into space as memories of the night replayed in my head. How could I be expected to remember he was only my fake boyfriend when he told me I was beautiful right before nearly slamming the door in my face yet again? “Hannah?” Lincoln’s voice jolted me from my thoughts. I was trying to remember some jokes from when I used to babysit in high school for extra cash, but so far all I had was “knock-knock.” I couldn’t remember the rest, which was truly sad since there were like a million knock-knock jokes to choose from. “Sorry, what?” He twisted the side of his lips up, probably amused that it was me messing up the conversation now. “I just asked if you were ready to go in.”

It didn't help that I was wearing heels either. "Let me tell you a joke," Conner says. We all looked at him as he motioned us to come closer. "Can a kangaroo jump higher than the Empire State Building?" He gives us a moment to think before he bursts out laughing. "Yes, because the Empire State Building can't jump!" Conner raised his hand in the air with less coordination, demanding that he get a high-five for his terrible dad joke. He got a few nudges and pushed instead. If I were sober, I would have gagged a little, but since I was drunk, I am beyond the point of caring and laughed for the sake of it.

They chuckle lightly at my joke and I'm glad it didn't go over their heads. “This is your first time meeting us”. One of the men says…I've genuinely forgotten his name and pack. “What do you think? Do you also think Fern is a dickhead?”. The Fern in question throws a butter knife, landing it perfectly between the man's hands on the table. “Shut up, Keren”. I can't tell if it's a joke but Keren doesn't flinch, just turns to me and shrugs in mock surrender. “I told you”. He says. The table chuckles again and I realize then that it must be a joke. I reply, my voice softening, "Is everything alright? Why do you call?” -["Papa, I… I’ve a joke,"]- He says, his tiny voice brimming with excitement. "Oh, I love jokes! Go ahead, buddy," I encourage, looking forward to the adorable punchline. -["Knock, knock.”]- "Who's there?" I play along. -["Ba… na… na.”]- "Banana who?" I ask with feigning curiosity. -["Ba-na-na… fall down… and… go boom!"]-

Clutch asked. My head was pounding so hard from last night’s partying, I’d momentarily forgotten about the mouse under my eye, and who’d given it to me. “That’s strange,” I said, before pausing. “What’s that?” “I don’t remember one of the books I sent you while you were locked up being a joke book,” I replied. “Here’s a joke for you. Knock, knock…” “Who’s there?” “Go fuck yourself,” he said, before putting his helmet on.

We continued talking for a while and he told me about the progress he had made in Country N. He continued his narration till a knock came on the door interrupting us. "Come in," I said. The door creaked open and Jones strode in. "I'm glad to see you awake, how are you feeling? I hope you won't be tearing anyone's clothes again," As he taunted me, he and Roman began laughing but I didn't find any of their mockery funny. So, I kept quiet, folded my arms, and pouted my lips. "Are you both done?" I asked angrily when both of them refused to stop their annoying laughter.
