Ronan muttered. “Don’t get too comfortable,” Ara cut in, voice heavy. They all stopped and looked at her. Ara stood at the edge of the trees, eyes fixed on the red numbers still ticking in her vision. “We didn’t stop Ramsdale Hawkins,” she said quietly. “He has the authorization. Based on my last timeline… the apocalypse begins in exactly seven days.”

That was the ringtone for my alarm. I hurriedly grabbed my phone with shaky hands as I glanced at the date and I audibly gasped in shock. The date was staring right at me, unblinking and I had to rub my eyes to be sure I wasn't hallucinating. It was indeed June 19th, 2665. The apocalypse happened July 19th. One month from today. I refused to believe that this was real. There was no way that I woke up one month before the city of Sloradath was reduced to ruins. But I knew everything that happened was too real to be a dream.

"It knows Adrian has accepted the challenge. It's accelerating." "How much time?" Adrian asks. "Days," Vess says. "Not weeks. Days." Adrian pulls me closer. His gold eyes meet mine and I see the weight of it all. The paranormal world. The human world. The impending apocalypse. All of it resting on the shoulders of someone who didn't choose this. Burned-out vehicles served as shelters, barbed wire fences marked territories, flickering fires burned in metal barrels, and groups of “survivors”— all rich Club members dressed in ragged, sexy post-apocalyptic costumes— roamed the area like predators. The sky was artificially darkened with massive screens, making it feel like the real end of the world. I was thrown into the center of the main camp, landing on my hands and knees in the dirt.

Their so-called happy family of three had been nothing more than an illusion built on lies and betrayal. Luke's parents had taken Howie away. The boy still had a future ahead of him. I hoped he would learn nothing from his parents' mistakes and grow into a decent, upright person. As for me, I had applied to continue my studies overseas.
