The accident caused me a a lot of pain and misery. My father sold all his properties including the house to pay of his debt and hospital bill. We live in a small apartment in a dark alley where it is difficult to sleep with two eyes closed.

"I am not Victor. I am not the weapon he tried to make me. I am the man who survived. And I am going to spend the rest of my life making sure that survival means something." The room erupted in applause. After the press conference, I found Alex in a quiet corner. "You did well," I said. "Thank you." He looked tired. But he looked free. "Alex," I said, "I know I don't have the right to ask. I know I've done terrible things. But I need to know. Is there any future where we're more than just broken people trying to be less broken together?" He looked at me. His eyes were tired but honest.

Alex screamed from a stretcher, his face covered in dust and blood. Then he spotted Maddie and me standing there, both safe and on our feet. He went still. A second later, he broke down. "Kayla... I'm sorry. I should've listened to you. That corner wasn't safe. The ceiling came down on us. Rainee lied. She got us all hurt!" I looked at him coldly. They'd made their choice. They'd gambled with their own lives. "Over here! More survivors!" A rescuer's shout rang out from deep in the rubble.

But as we walk away from the altar and into the rest of our lives, I know that I will have to find a way to make the best of a bad situation. “Are you okay?” He grunted. “Yes, I am, thank you for asking,” What more could I possibly tell him? That I felt sick by this whole thing? “Good, I have to go talk to some of my partners. Have fun, will catch you later” I stared at his back as he approached two men at the far end of the church, leaving me all alone in the middle of the crowded room. Without him by my side I felt invincible and that was just how I wanted it.

I shook his hand. Though Alexa was sitting near me, James came to us, pushed her a little and sat between us, looking at me. I smiled awkwardly and looked back at Mrs. King. “Kylie saved me from having a heart attack!” Mrs. King stated and laughed. “What?” James asked bewildered. I laughed too. “I’m kidding! But I could have had it, if Kylie hadn’t been there to help her. Alexa ran away from home to find me, even though I told her that she couldn’t come with me!”

The kiss is gentle and sweet and I don't know how long it's been but I know that I don't want the kiss to end. And then it all hits me. I'm Alexa Parker, the girl whose best friend committed suicide. The girl who gave up everything and the girl who wanted to end her own life because she was hopeless and weak. I shouldn't be doing this–I shouldn't be kissing Blake because a boy like Blake doesn't deserve to be with a girl like me and he definitely doesn't deserve to take on all the baggage I came with. My eyes snap open and I push away from him, my breathing erratic and my heart thumping loudly in my chest as I stand up.
