Alpha Window Cleaning Novels & Stories

It all felt surreal. Today's major task was cleaning the windows, a weekly chore. They moved through the house, removing each window from its frame and washing it thoroughly. They cleaned the frames and sills before replacing and polishing the glass again. The task took twice as long because they had to disarm each alarm for cleaning, and the system only stayed disarmed for a minute at a time.

Over the past few weeks I had even convinced Miriam to let someone clean the massive garden windows, but she had immediately refused. “Too dangerous,” she had told me firmly. “The Alpha might find out if we bring someone into the estate.” So instead, I had begun cleaning the lower ones myself whenever I had spare time. It was slower that way, but at least now sunlight actually passed through parts of the glass instead of layers of dust. I carried the watering can toward the pond before setting it down beside the stone edge carefully. The pond itself had finally been cleaned too. The murky water was gone, replaced with clear still water that reflected the evening sky softly.
