The dads had gone upstairs to the study to talk business, as always, and the house had fallen into that hushed, post-dinner stillness, save for the women chattering in the kitchen.
“What are you working on?” I asked, leaning slightly toward the couch.
He looked up, a little startled, then smiled. “Oh, just something. Animation project.”
“Animation?”
He nodded, turning the screen toward me. “Yeah, I like creating small sequences for indie studios. This one’s about a forest at night. It’s hand drawn, frame by frame. Very tedious, but I love it.”
The screen flickered softly, showing a moonlit path through the trees. I could almost feel the pull of it.
