My New Life Has No Room for Them
Her voice was full of panic, but to me it all felt strangely ridiculous.
"The combat healer program is excellent. Helping on the front lines is meaningful work."
I used a reason she couldn't reasonably argue against, then added lightly, "Besides, no matter how dangerous it is, at least I have proper food, shelter, and instructors watching my back. I've lived through days where survival depended on luck… This is nothing compared to that."
Mom broke into sobs. "Shee, are you blaming us for losing you and for forcing you away?"
I hadn't expected her to say something like that. I wanted to say something, but no words came out.
