I just needed to get away. Why am I running?

I didn’t know know when a hug smile fall on my face, i was really greatfull for the extra time I was 16 when I came across a quote *Every mile you run is a quiet conversation between your pain and your strength—one where healing slowly learns to speak.” I didn’t understand the meaning not I lost my parents and I was so desperate to heal, then this quote made more sense and ever since then, running has been my life line.

Running should feel like escape. Forward motion. Distance. The idea that if you just keep going, the thing behind you becomes less. Maya runs and learns that distance is a theory. Reality is corners. When I was sure the coast was clear, I dashed out of the door and ran to the exit. "Hey, stop. Stop running!!!" One of the nurses who attended to me yelled across the hall and I increased my pace. I paid no attention to anyone who called me as I ran out of the hospital and called a cab. "Police station," I said to the driver as I entered it. I had to file a complaint and find my children. I opened my bag and rummaged through my things to find my phone. I took it out and called my roommate. It rang for a while before she picked up the call. "Bailey, where are you and where's the car?” she asked with a harsh tone.

The music switches to the next track, Beyonce ‘All the Single Ladies,’ as I smile, enjoying the beat as my feet hit the ground. The smell of the damp earth and wilted leaves greets me as I run a little faster. Sometime I think I will run so fast I’ll fly. I don’t even look where I’m going, having done this route so often. I’m just enjoying the sound of my feet thudding along the ground, the whistle of the leaves, and the sound of the birds as the song changes to the next. It hit pause on the strap on my arm when I hear another set of footprints heading towards me. Normally I wouldn’t mind.
