I try to find something I can use to help me, but I pass out again. I wake up to faint lights and voices all around me. I can feel myself moving. The ground is not as hard as before. At this point I was panicking, I couldn't see or hear clearly and my face was going numb. I felt myself fall backwards like I was in slow motion and before I lost consciousness the last thing I heard was a scream. And then I blacked out.

Aware of her body being heavy and still, warm and somehow relaxed, as nausea swirled and her head thumped so painfully she couldn’t move properly. “Linlin?” She mumbled with effort, woozy and disorientated and reaching out to feel out her friend beside her. “Are you okay?” Knowing the crash would have hurt her too. Only she found she wasn’t sitting forward at all but lying down and flat on her back and there was a hum of noise gently pulsating around her while her hand paused in midair finding nothing close. Confusion rising as she turned her head and forced her eyes open properly.

“You… you heard that?” “Yes,” she said faintly. “Every word.” He scratched the back of his neck nervously. “I—uh—I didn’t know people in comas could hear anything.” Mrs. Morgan smiled gently. “Oh, but they can,” she said. “Studies have shown that coma patients can sometimes hear voices and feel presence. Their minds record everything even when their bodies can’t respond.” Roman sighed, shaking his head with a smile. “Well… guess I owe you a proper explanation then,” he muttered, embarrassed.

Without warning, I was engulfed by disorientation, my thoughts slipping away. Just before losing consciousness, I faintly heard someone calling my name, their voice a distant echo.
