She scrambled from the bus. An acidic smell filled Jace’s nose and burned his eyes. The bus filled with smoke. Sed helped him to his feet. “We have to get out of here,” Sed said. “Is everyone okay?” Sed didn’t answer, but looked anxiously over his shoulder. Jace followed his gaze. The back half of the bus was missing, and beyond the torn edge lay open space—an endless chasm beyond a cliff.

The group took a collective breath, ready to face whatever awaited them the moment they set foot out of the store. Everyone took a bus while the car that was supposed to be driven by Hannah and Marcky was tied and was dragging by the bus. They were all sitting in the bus, aside from Brandon, who's currently their driver. The group was driving cautiously into what was once a familiar cityscape, but now it was an unrecognizable scene of decay and abandonment. The buildings and infrastructure were covered in a thick, green mold, giving the appearance that the city had been abandoned for decades. It wasn't like a normal abandonment because some of them are distant.

Rowan's territory was indeed remote and desolate, but it was nothing like I'd imagined. Word had spread that Rowan and I were coming, because many beastmen crowded the roadside holding gifts they wanted to present to us. They all looked well-fed and healthy, their eyes bright. Even the little ones and elderly were plump and rosy-cheeked. Since the apocalypse began, all the clans had struggled to survive. Food was barely enough to get by, and many older beastmen had starved to death. Those who survived were skin and bones. However, everything was completely different here.

"Madam got on a No. 207 bus. She should be at the terminal now..." Beau furrowed his eyebrows. "Where is the final destination of bus 207?" "It's..." Noah hesitated for a moment. "In the South Mountain Cemetery." Beau's eyes suddenly turned cold! The sight of Eliza rose in his eyes. She was pale and week as she kneeled in front of the small tombstone. "Let's go!" The sudden heavy rain swallowed the whole city of Krine. Amidst the lightning and thunder, all the cars were forced to slow down.

Even the door of the bus was locked outside by them. Everyone was screaming inside the bus. To save them and myself I went to the back of the bus and broke the glass. I helped them to leave the bus.

The memories looped, a silent, brutal film, until the bus finally hissed to a stop, shaking her from her trance. "Port Authority. End of the line. Everybody off." The other passengers filed out. Aurora remained, frozen. Where was she supposed to go? The bus driver, the one who had let her on, caught her eye in his mirror. He waited until the bus was empty, then killed the engine. The sudden silence was deafening. "This is it, kid," he said, not unkindly. Aurora stood, her legs shaking. She felt naked, exposed. "I... I don't..."

I heard a mutated beast swallowed him during a supply raid before he could even seek revenge. Five years later, as the first rays of sunlight pierced through the thick clouds and shone upon the earth, an excited voice blared over the loudspeaker. "Attention survivors! The National Academy of Sciences has successfully developed a serum to kill the zombie virus! The apocalypse is over! We have won!" Cheers erupted from the base. I stood on the city wall, watching the sun slowly rise in the distance. My parents, still full of energy, stood beside me. Dad patted my shoulder, saying with a grin, "Sweetie, how about we have a feast to celebrate tonight?"

he explained hastily. He stared at me in confusion while I shrugged. "I have no clue. I don't know anything about the military. My clothes were torn, so I changed into this uniform. The next thing I knew, I saw hope." I paused. "The bus. The military bus." I wanted them to understand that my only reason for getting on the bus had been to survive the apocalypse. "You should have told us sooner," Ace hissed. He grunted and walked away, taking short steps back and forth, his anxiety looking obvious.
