“You know exactly what I'm talking about. “Who are you, Miles? How can you get here?” “Of course I can, I am the beta of this pack.” He smirked. What Beta? You are a Beta? What was Miles telling me? My mind was reeling, trying to comprehend the fact that he was the beta of a pack of werewolves. “You aren't the beta," I said, shaking my head in disbelief. “This pack has a beta. What are you saying?” Miles laughed, a bitter sound that grated on my nerves. “You're right, Eva. I'm not the beta,” he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. “I'm the Alpha.”

Beta Evans and Alpha Bennett exchange a look that makes me nervous, and Beta Evans says, “I’ll call them.” “Thank you, Conrad.” The Beta leaves the room, and Alpha Bennett looks back at me. I close my book, making sure to leave a bookmark there, and I meet his amber eyes as I ask, “Can I help you, Alpha?” He shakes his head no, “No, I’m alright, thank you, Elyria.” He looks back down at his desk. This is the perfect time, the Beta just left, and I heard Alpha give Gamma Price an assignment earlier.

CHAPTER 119. Author's POV. Alpha Trent walked straight to their room, and he met Eva laying on the bed with a magazine close to her face. Eva sensed him and put down her magazine, she smiled at him and he smiled back. “You are finding it hard washing the dishes, huh?, I told you not to bother about it and that my heat was just over not like I was recovering from some disease” Eva smiled at him. Alpha Trent just kept smiling at her without saying a word, and Eva noticed something strange about his smile.

“But aren’t you the Alpha’s Beta? Surely he won’t mind if you step inside the room since you were tasked with the job of fetching me.” Rin seems to be hesitating, and I notice there is a gleam of fear in his blue eyes. It puzzles me. Why is the Beta afraid of his own Alpha? Something isn’t right here… “It would put me at ease if you came with me,” I say in a low voice, and my words are as shocking to me as they are to Rin. I’ve never had a filter, and my words are the truth: I would feel better if Rin accompanied me. But what bewilders me is that I can’t put a finger on why his presence would put me more at ease. I just met him—he is a complete stranger!

Not that I knew why. “Are you ok?” Evie asked quietly shutting the bathroom door behind her. I scoffed. “Define ok.” Gripping the sink I peeked at myself in the mirror. My violet eyes were brighter than usual, and my black hair was sticking to my sweaty face. “How long do I have to be the token wolf-less girl that everyone despises?” Evie linked her arm through mine. “Now that is just silly because I adore you, wolf or no wolf.” She pushed hair from my face. “And our alpha adores you, he only smiles when you’re around V.”

A ghost of a smile appeared on her lips but it eventually vanished. “He went out first. The team needed him immediately.” I nodded and shyly stood up from bed. Of course, he’s the Alpha. Why would he even wait for me, right? I just fixed myself before docking from the ship. My mouth dropped open when I saw the situation outside. Trees were lifeless. I don’t even think there’s life here. Buildings and houses were destroyed and burned. This has become their life? In all of my years in experience, I have never saw something like this. Even being a Warrior Witch, I have never seen something like this.

“She’s not his Luna?” Annabel’s eyes crinkled as she laughed. “What? No. She’s his sister, but the Alpha adores her and loves her more than his own life. She’s…everything to him, alongside Beta Kairel. Their relationship is one we all envy. Alpha Aegon would burn the world for those two.” Apparently, I knew less and less than I thought.

As we walked home, Evie rambled excitedly about her eighth year birthday coming up in a month’s time, and I tried to control myself from crying because without a cure, Evie was going to die in a month's time also. Evie suddenly went silent, and I glanced at her with concern. “Mom?” Evie said quietly, “Can daddy come for my birthday this time? I promise, I'll be good?” Evie rarely asked for anything else. Alpha Eric hated Evie because of me, and Evie was really suffering because of it. She had always craved that fatherly affectio
