The air simply grew heavier, filled with that suffocating, sharp scent of ozone that always followed witch magic.
“Rest time is over, little memento,” the lead witch whispered. Her bare face, without the mask, looked even more repulsive in the cave’s blue glow. “Your Alpha is moving too slowly. It seems he needs a little… motivation.”
Two more figures stepped out of the shadows. They held long staffs studded with shards of ice, their tips vibrating ominously.
“What do you want?” I asked, but my voice came out dry and hoarse.
“What Silas promised but never dared to give,” the witch replied, waving her hand.
