The witches closed in, their laughter echoing like a chorus of nightmares. Something inside Aqua snapped. A surge of dark energy, unfamiliar and terrifying, welled up within her. She felt her pendant grow hot against her skin, the clear crystal turning black as smoke. The air around her crackled with raw power as she turned back towards the attackers, her fear morphing into a blinding rage.

‘Or he wouldn’t even have been born,’ Ember growled. There were many paths that led to the same destination, to the same future, and I was going to try and trust that Orion and I would come out of this together. But once Orion and I were in charge of the Mystic Shadow Pack, we would stop using the Oracle. Maybe we could still let her do the prophecy, but keep it hidden until the person reached the age of eighteen. I walked out of my room, not wanting to say goodbye to Orion again. He also needed me to distract the guards, so I walked straight down and out of my house.

That the prophecy wasn’t talking about just anyone. It might be talking about her. And somewhere far beyond the mountains… In a fortress of shadow and black stone… The Shadow King stood before a massive altar. Dark energy swirled around him. Above the altar floated a small fragment of black crystal. It pulsed like a heartbeat. The first fragment of the Eclipsed Moon. The Shadow King’s deep voice echoed through the chamber. “Soon…” The crystal glowed brighter. “The light of the twenty moons will fall.” Lightning struck the fortress tower.

As expected, the name struck like thunder in the gloom. “What?” The voice was hushed, reverent and alarmed. “Is that even possible? No one knows where the Black Moon Flowers are except the Dark Wolves. How did she manage to get one? Or…” The shadow’s tone dropped to a whisper, heavy with awe and fear, “She is the prophecy. She is the soon-to-be founding Blessings!” I snapped my head toward them, voice sharp and biting. “Nonsense! You know how it works. Like a Queen Bee in a beehive. It’s forbidden to have two Queen bees.” I smirked, cold and cruel.

She showed me the luxurious rooms and beautiful gardens. Finally, Sia showed me to my room. I felt exhausted after walking through the grand mansion. My room was fully white, with accents of light blue, and the queen-sized bed, working desk, and drapes had crystal beads. I settled into the room, closed my eyes, and thought about Sia's story about my mother, Jia, and her struggles as a slave to the Blackmoon Pack alphas and how she eventually met my father. Luna Sia believed that the Blackmoon Pack had killed the pack members in war, but a plot by the Devamps cult, a hybrid of demons and vampires, caused their misery.

He raised his voice, steady and unwavering, echoing across the training ground. “The war is coming. This war… is one we cannot avoid. It is the war written in the Book of Prophecies. And whether you wish to fight or not, whether you feel ready or not, you will be involved. But remember this, no matter what happens you are Blackmoon. Blackmoon is eternal. We fight for the Moon Goddess. For our pack, and for every life we hold dear. And we will return victorious… as we always have.” The assembly erupted into chants and shouts. “FOR BLACKMOON! FOR BLACKMOON!” Echoed through the night, bouncing off the surrounding trees and walls of the Packhouse.

“But there’s more, Lucian. The prophecy… it’s not just about Aaron. It’s about you.” His gaze sharpened instantly, his senses seizing onto the strained quiver in my voice. “Explain. Now.” My chest heaved as I groped for the runic scroll buried inside my cloak. I unrolled the brittle parchment, hands quivering as the old words shimmered under candlelight. “The Prophecy of the Blood Moon states: ‘From the union of shadow and flame shall rise the First Alpha, the Reaper of Blood, who will awaken the dormant breed and usher in a new reign.’”

It confirmed everything I already suspected: there was more to her than she dared admit. As the doors closed behind her, I leaned back into my velvet chair, tapping a manicured finger against the rim of my goblet. The red wine swirled, dark and rich, but not nearly as intoxicating as the thought gnawing at the back of my mind. A prophecy. The silver wolf who was a threat to my reign. And that trembling little servant girl might be at the center of it. The Blue Moon was only two nights away. The sacred night when wolves found their strength renewed, when new wolves surfaced, bonds solidified, and power surged. The night where destinies could be sealed—or destroyed.

Next to it lay a small, smooth stone, dark grey with a single white vein running through it like a crack of lightning. “The Blood Moon Prophecy is a lie,” Arlen said quietly. “A story the Priestess and Silas tell to frighten the Council and justify their hunger for power. It is a cover. A noisy distraction.” He lifted the page with reverence. “This is the real prophecy. The older one. The one they have killed to suppress.” Elidra’s breath caught. “What does it say?” Arlen did not read it. He recited it from memory, his old voice gaining a strange, rhythmic power.
