Caitlyn's POV Bree’s note had been maddeningly vague, yet it had led me here—to the Hollow Fang Cavern. An abandoned place buried deep within the mountains, hidden from time itself. The entrance yawned before me like a mouth ready to swallow me whole. The air was thick with damp earth, the scent of old stone, and something else—something darker, ancient, watching. I took a slow breath and stepped inside. The moment my foot crossed the threshold, a chill wrapped around me, sinking deep into my bones. The walls dripped with moisture, their rough, jagged edges whispering against my fingertips as I walked deeper. My breath came out in shallow puffs, misting in the cold air.

“They’ll make her one of them. Bind her to the cycle.” Mira’s eyes narrowed. “Then we need to break it first.” Back Below, Elise stepped into the Hollow’s heart. And there, beneath the swirling ceiling of light and shadow—stood something impossible. A tree. White as bone. Blooming with silver leaves that pulsed with breath. Its roots coiled through the rock like veins, drinking from the dead. At its base was a pool. Still. Dark. Reflective. The Hollow spoke again. “Every Moonbreather before you stood here. Most were silent. Some screamed. One fought.”

It phases, then re-forms, sliding behind me like a whisper. I pivot, my hands trembling. The Velen inside me screams. Something erupts from my chest. It's not a sound, but light. A ribbon of pale blue fire shoots out from my palms and pierces the thing’s core. The Hollow shrieks. It doesn’t bleed, but it flickers violently before dissolving into smoke. A gasp. I turn. Ezra is watching, blood dripping from his shoulder and his sword dragging beside him. He’s gritting his teeth, pale.

A vast heartbeat echoed beneath our feet. “The Hollow,” I breathed. “It’s not gone.” She reached for me, but the mark on my chest flared crimson and burned through my veins. My body arched and my pulse was hammering like drums of war. The Hollow’s voice spoke again, but not in my mind this time. It was behind her. She froze, with the blood draining from her face. I saw her mouth open, but no sound came out, because the Hollow’s voice was no longer inside her; it was standing right behind her.

And it’s not empty.” Lyla pulled away, breath ragged, voice sharper than steel. “Show me.” Ten minutes later They stood at the edge of a jagged, narrow gorge. The opening looked like a wound in the ground, pulsing with a faint red light. Lyla’s boots crunched against bone and frost. Jonas pointed down. “It’s not just a cave. It’s alive.” Eli stepped beside her. “Whatever’s in there it’s calling to someone.” “Not me,” Lyla said, tightening her grip on the blade at her hip. “And that’s a problem.”

"We're here. It's time." Link pushed past a fallen Hollowborn, joining his son. What he saw made his throat go dry. The chamber opened like the heart of a dead god. Roots the width of towers hung from the ceiling, pulsing with sickly light. In the center, a breach—a spiraling wound in reality—yawned wide, rimmed with flesh-like stone and bleeding shadow. The Hollow was alive. Lilly stood beside them, her voice a whisper of horror. "It's not just a breach. It's a mouth."

“ The next game is called the game of Echoes.” Luke announced, standing on the makeshift ring where the five used to practice fighting. “Each competitor will go through the East portal which leads to the world of the hollows. For the sake of those who do not know,” he continued. “ Hollows are phantoms that can see guilt, pain, rage, jealousy, and envy. They can also materialize into your greatest fears, your deepest desires and the things that haunt you when you sleep.

He had positioned the hole based on the floor plan of the room he was in, and believing the room below would be the same. When he looked through the hole with the tiny video camera he saw that the room was exactly as he figured. The hole was right where he wanted it to be, twelve inches back from the edge of the sink in the bathroom. Anyone standing at the sink would be right under the hole. The miniscule amount of dust that fell when he drilled the hole landed on the rug and if his timing was good would be thrown away by the room cleaning woman hours before the room was used again. He shut off the light in the bathroom and left the camera on. On the monitor he could watch the bathroom below

The air in the cavern was no longer thick with the scent of pine; it was choked with the acrid stench of ozone, burnt magnesium, and the cold, metallic breath of the "Slipstream" engines. The ceiling of the Hollow, once a dark cathedral of stone, was now a jagged landscape of blinding blue spotlights and the silhouettes of descending "New Geneva" strike teams.

She probably could, Malakai won't underestimate her but he could only pray that Eden would behave. It's been an hour since he's sent the cleaning crew and Eden never showed up. He looked to his right and saw the drawer that Eden broke into. He was quite impressed at how easily she did it. But then he looked carefully and his gaze landed on the floor. The earring Eden used. She must have dropped it, too concentrated on the gun. Malakai picked it up and looked at the back of it closely. It wasn't an ordinary earring, it had a knife-like back, like a hidden weapon. Cleaver. That's why Eden got in so easily.
