I watched as he exploded into a spray of blood yet I calmly pulled out a handkerchief, dabbing at my face as though nothing had happened. “And after joining the hyenas…” I continued, almost pleasantly, “the dog betrayed the wolves. Not just the wolves.” My voice lowered. “But every living creature.” The air shifted. Screams echoed, sharp, raw, desperate as bodies fell one after another. It caught Calhoun across the shoulder, tearing skin and drawing a spray of dark, rich blood. The courtyard suddenly went silent. A low, guttural sound began to build in his chest, a sound that wasn't human, and wasn't even entirely wolf. It was the sound of a demon. "You shouldn't have done that," I whispered, my heart hammering against my ribs.

“Pull them back to the inner perimeter. If they stay out here, they’ll all die.” Liam nodded and took off, his voice booming as he relayed my orders. I turned back to the battlefield, my wolf howling with rage at the sight of my packmates falling one by one. Suddenly, a deafening roar shook the ground, and I turned just in time to see a massive Bloodhound tearing through our ranks. Its red eyes locked on me, and it charged, its fangs bared. I braced myself, shifting halfway into my wolf form as it lunged. We collided with a force that rattled my bones, and I sank my claws into its side, feeling its hot blood coat my hands.

Normally it wouldn't even think of such a childish thing. Who needed the eyes of a crow or other such bird when one had the might of a hound?
