Book Read Stand Novels & Stories

I step outside to find a comfortable reading chair set up, with a stack of books on the small table beside it—all titles I'd mentioned wanting to read, all brought from the Royal Library at Armani's request. I smile at his thoughtfulness and settle into the chair, selecting the top book from the pile. It's a good story, engaging and well-written, but after a few chapters, I find my attention wandering again. I lay the book open across my rounded belly and gaze out at the lake, watching birds swoop and dive over the water.

He stills and then stands, his hands to his mouth. “Holy fucking hell.” Morpheus rolls his eyes and nods, “Told you, obvious when you actually look.” He opens up his book again and goes back to reading. Eliza looks between the two of them, “I’m assuming you can’t tell me.” Sol tilts his head and groans; he runs his fingers through his hair and turns away from her to pace. “Okay then. Morpheus, is there a book here I’m allowed to read?” He smiles and nods. He clicks his fingers and a book appears on the coffee table. She raises an eyebrow but nods and picks it up. It’s an old leather-bound book, with a red leather cover and a gold emblem on the front, she turns it to read the spine,

"Could you recommend something good to read? My apprentice here was new and she wishes to give your book a try." Eugene said and when the Dryad heard of that, she turned her gaze at Abby. "Well, then, if that is the case, let me bring you to our best-seller section." She said and gestured for them to follow her. The attendant took then at the forefront corner of the shop and when they walked past a standee saying 'Elle Antoni's best selling books' Abby stopped on her track. She slowly made her way towards the pile of books placed next to the standee and took one from it.

Stanley, remembering he wanted to pick out some books, decided to go in and have a look. The bookstore was nestled in a busy street but had a charming and elegant feel, like a quiet haven in the midst of chaos. Zara strolled through the aisles and found a book about artificial hearts in the medical section, which she started to read. Stanley came over and whispered a question to her. She whispered back. Up on the second floor, someone noticed their quiet exchange and mistook it for something more intimate. The man watching them had a cool, distinguished air. Even without a suit, he could not hide his sharp, elite presence.

Maybe our connection wasn’t meant to be, so no matter how we were brought together we still didn’t end up together. A few moments later, I’d found the books I wanted to buy. I placed them in my arms, then walked over to Kevin, who was sitting on the reading sofa. This bookstore has a tiny reading room with only two reading sofas separated by a small round table. A reading lamp stands beside each sofa. On the table sits a small flowerpot serving as decoration. The reading room floor is carpeted, and next to my sofa are two vending machines.

Reading will help me learn. "Sorry miss, can I just get that book." A guy stands next to me pointing to a book in the corner. I step back giving him space, watching as he picks up the book. Standing he scans it and puts it back. "New here?" He looks at me, as he gets another book and scans it. I'm guessing he works here. "Could say that." I nod and place the book down, I struggle to read the back from boredom so I doubt I will read the book.

I run my fingers across every bump as I proceed to read its contents. Mother created that podium. It allows me to take any book I wish to read and have it converted into brail. When I’m finished reading I simply place the book back on the shelf and the book will return to its original state. Yes, it’s another accommodation made for me, but it’s a very useful one since our job sometimes involves a little research. We’ve all read every book in this library, even written most of them, which isn’t very difficult. Considering how long we’ve been alive, we have an abundance of time.

In front of it was a matching stool with wooden legs and a fluffy white blanket sitting over it. Picking up the blanket she held against her body and nearly melted at how soft it was. Covering herself with it she made her way to a nearby bookstand and ran her fingers across the spines of the neatly packed books. She admired the colours each one had and how each presented itself with a unique quirk.

The reading corner. He stood in it for a long time. The corner that was Ellie's in its thinking — the north window and the low shelf and the angled seat, the bounded space within the larger room. He had specified the shelf height from Ellie's drawing: the low shelf at the child's eye level, the books at the reaching distance of the sitting child. He had specified the seat angle from the library corner, the slight recline that allowed the body to settle rather than perch.

He stood in the doorway. He stood there for a long moment. He did not greet me. He crossed the library. He walked the length of it to the shelf nearest my table. He reached up to the second shelf. He took down a book. He opened it. He stood there reading, three feet from the back of my chair, in the soft amber light. I kept reading.
