I browsed the bookshelf searching for a book to read, my step-father set fire to all my books in the wheel barrow when he first moved in with us. The doorbell chimed like an overly excited xylophone, and Lily barely had time to lift her head from the couch before Brenna James swept in like a woman on a mission. She was armed—no, loaded—with a basket the size of a toddler, crammed with prenatal tea, fresh mangoes, three different lotions labeled “bump-safe,” and a large book titled “So You’re Not Allowed to Do It for Nine Months – A Partner’s Survival Guide.” Vandaulf, reclining in his seat with a damp rag slung over his forehead like a thespian in a melodrama, raised an eyebrow.

Alas, no matter how gently I tried, the doll was beyond repair. It was not until the next day, when Rebecca walked by my room, that I started to snap out of it. I picked myself up off the floor. I had someone clear out the room. Silently, I moved to the desk, my eyes landing on the dusty family portrait. There they were, Rebecca and Nash. Her smile was so bright that it hurt to look at. Outside, the sky was a menacing shade of gray. I set the photo on fire with a lighter, and I watched in silence as it turned to ash.

She’d dreamed of this for so long—and now, it was real. The shelves were filled with donated books, zines, memoirs, and poetry collections by survivors. A group of teens huddled in a circle at the back, speaking in low voices as they passed a shared notebook between them. One of the girls had blue streaks in her braids and wore a pin that read Your story matters. Skye caught her eye, and the girl smiled. River came up behind her, his hand sliding to the small of her back. “Full house today,” he murmured.

Her bright eyes that easily rival the sun’s shine. “Hey, Zee…” The words flowed out of me like a broken music record while Dahlia sniffled beside me. I didn’t need to look at her to know her eyes were already red-rimmed with tears. I wish I could be here when Zahra eventually wakes up. To support her, give her all the love and care she needs. Unfortunately, I have a Pack to save. And so, I carried the book sitting on my thighs. “I got you a book,” I waved it in front of Zahra’s face. Although she can’t see the title, I dearly clung to hope that she could hear me. “It’s titled, ‘A dance of ice and fire’.”

Ruby. My child. The family I let slip away. I’ll beg if I have to. Fight. Burn the world down again. But she’s not leaving without me this time. Not again. Never again. The king is ready to kneel. A poke in the head woke Harriet up. She looked at her surroundings with wide eyes and her lips curving upward for an uncontrollable smile. "I'm in heaven," she giggled as she crimped her eyes against the bright rays of light that covered the whole place. When she was losing her breath, she thought that maybe she was going to hell because all she could see were black dots, and then a thick darkness engulfed her, but she had woken up in a bright place.

I only felt a dense, throbbing pain spreading from my chest outward. Everything in front of me became blurry, and I suddenly lost consciousness. When I woke up again, bright lights were blinding me, and the air was filled with a strong smell of disinfectant. "Hailey, you're awake." My best friend, Jane, was beside me, helping me sit up. "How do you feel?" I sensed a moment of hesitation in Jane's voice. "What happened to me?"

~ Brianne’s Raye POV I felt a very soft feeling on my body, I could hear the gentle sound of waves. I frown as I tried to find where the direction is it coming from, I slowly tried to open her eyes. But I felt like her eyelid are too heavy to be able to stay open. A very bright light blinded me making me groan as it made me close my eyes shut again, I force myself to open my eyes and look on the other way of the light. I slowly tried to familiarize myself and think about where am I, the place felt comfortable and familiar.
