I'd been practicing my whole life. I moved through the ground floor rooms with a systematic focus that I found genuinely calming. There was something useful about having a task with clear edges. This room. This surface. This list. In the middle of everything that was happening, the simplicity of it was almost a relief. The library took the longest. Floor-to-ceiling shelves on three walls, a reading table in the center, and two armchairs angled toward the fireplace. The books were actually organized, not decoratively arranged but genuinely sorted. Someone used this room.

A reading lamp stands beside each sofa. On the table sits a small flowerpot serving as decoration. The reading room floor is carpeted, and next to my sofa are two vending machines.

Tall windows lined one wall, their glass segmented into stained panes that turned the morning light into soft golds and blues, painting long, colorful rectangles across the floor. Floor to ceiling bookshelves covered the rest of the walls, real shelves, packed tight with volumes upon volumes of every size. Some spines were pristine, stamped with clean titles and crisp pages. Others were cracked and faded with age, cloth frayed at the edges, leather worn smooth. There were shelves of modern binders and printed reports tucked beside ancient looking tomes bound in dark hide, their titles almost unreadable.

“No!” Lavi puts the last book on its shelf and is about to walk away when he notices something on the floor. The tiles on the floor are perfectly aligned in straight lines except for one which is slightly offside. It is not easy to distinguish with the naked eye but upon close, Lavi can see that something is off. He bends down to touch the floor and slides the tile open. We came back to the living room and kitchen where he twirled in the space. “Now! Jordy!” Basil snapped his fingers. “The books!” His assistant came forward, pulling out four different books, thick enormous books and basically slammed them down on the kitchen counter. Walking over, I peered at them. Basil came up behind me. “There is a book for bedrooms, kitchen and bathrooms, living room and lounge, and outdoor spaces. Look and show me what jumps out at you.” I nodded. Sitting down, I opened up the bedroom book first. Flipping through the pages, I stopped about the fifteen pages in.

“You got it right. It’s one reason why I love this place.” Klevon moves towards the metal stairs at the end of the room. We descend to the second level, which is packed with rows of bookshelves. As we make our way toward the third level, the musty smell becomes stronger, the stairway becomes cracked, and there are missing plasters on the walls. The bottom level is a landing that opens up to a larger room with only five bookshelves in the middle. The entire floor is covered in dark red rugs. “Oh, wow!” Gezer comments. “I think I have an idea of what my favorite place will look like.”

I found myself noticing things like how our bodies molded together and how my height was perfect for him—I slotted into place like a puzzle piece. The leather-bound books looked old, ancient with symbols I recognized. These were the books none of the public was able to see. Most of the time they were even kept away from royalty. Knowledge equaled power. Power equaled greed.

They passed the first floor where the assistants and magicians were conducting experiments and were also seen experimenting with dust, blue, red and purple smoke. You can also see the fires that burn the liquid in the glass and flying books. There is also a maid who is cleaning by holding a broom and rag. Behind them was a large, wide bookcase covering the worn gray wall. Seeing their arrival gazes turned to Altair and Mary who were walking past them. Altair and Mary's destination was located on the 2nd floor while the first floor was the people's room they had seen earlier, the 2nd floor was the location of important books, precious parchments and history books.
