Tiago said and Noe passed him a side glare. "Naa, brother you don't have to be so rude," Noe said with a pout but his eyes were on fire. I couldn't help but laugh. "Anyways, it was an amazing book. One of my top five. No wonder why are you so clever, sister." He said and continuously hit his hand on my shoulder. I'm on cloud nine. I couldn't believe that my brother has read my book which I wrote two years ago. We heard Tiago clearing his throat so we turned to look at him.

Gabrielle had grown on her badly, so instead, she stuck by the nickname 'Brie'. "Do I look okay?" She turned to her brother, Adam, who was silently playing a game on his phone. He took a second to respond, his soft, brown hair flopping down into his eyes as he hunched over the colourful screen. "Huh?" He looked up, sacrificing his game in the process. His soft, freckled face shone with admiration for his sister. "You look great." He smiled and stood up with a jump. He trotted clumsily over to the window and glanced out with a thoughtful expression.

“Of course not. I’m just checking if Chris is around. There’s a problem at the packhouse.” I guess Chris will be back later than I expected then. I check the title page of the book father lent me: Celestial Realm: a History. “I’ll be right back. Tell your brother I visited him.” Without hearing any reply from me, he walks out of the office and securely closes the door. Why did he react like that when I read the book? If it’s only for Alphas, won’t Chris get in trouble for letting his little sister get hold of it?

“If something happens to me… they won’t stop with me.” My breath pauses. What the hell is this? Did my brother know something would happen to him? And why did he write it like he knew he would not live long enough to explain? The stillness in the study feels heavier now. I stare at the words until they blur, until my chest tightens in a way I don’t like. There were things Adrian never told me. I always felt that. Now the book sits on my lap like proof. Something happened to him, and he saw it coming.

“You’d be surprised what I read. This one is my favorite.” I pulled my blanket tighter around me, watching him. “Okay then, Mr. Literature. Tell me what it’s about.” He leaned forward slightly, elbows resting on his knees. “Well, it’s about three brothers. They’re all different. One is all about reason, one is impulsive and the last one is religious. Their father is a mess, he's selfish and cruel, and… well, things spiral from there. It’s about faith, guilt, morality, love, all of it. Dostoevsky just… he makes you feel like you’re inside their heads.”

“My brother finds it hard to let go when he’s been wronged.” He leans closer. “What about you?” I blink at him. “What?” He studies me for a moment, then shakes his head lightly. “Nothing.” He straightens and holds out his hand. “We should go.” I hesitate, staring at his outstretched palm. The only thing I know about the Hawthorne brothers is what my stepfather used to rant about whenever I found him slumped at the end of a bottle. Ruthless. Evil. Monsters. He said they had more money than they knew what to do with it. And egos too big for their own good.

“Are you seriously calling that bitch beautiful? That woman stood against you in court and sent you to prison for five years, brother! Are you even thinking straight?” The man shrugged in response, unbothered by his brother’s reaction. “What can I say? I’ve always had a thing for those sexy librarian types. Besides, she’s special. How many women do you meet every day who had the guts to stand up against you despite being aware that I could snap their necks with my bare hands without even breaking a sweat?” Little Jo rolled his eyes, still unconvinced by his brother’s logic. “Whatever you say, bro. You’re the boss.”
