Aku tumbuh besar di luar negeri. Ibuku takut aku akan mencarikannya menantu orang asing. Jadi, dia mengaturkan tunangan yang tampan dan berbakat untukku di ibu kota, juga memintaku untuk pulang dan bertunangan. Aku pergi ke sebuah toko barang mewah untuk memilih gaun pertunangan, lalu jatuh cinta pada sebuah gaun panjang tanpa tali berwarna krem. Ketika aku hendak mencobanya, wanita di sebelahku melirik gaun di tanganku dan berkata kepada pramuniaga, "Model gaun ini cukup unik. Aku mau coba." Si pramuniaga langsung merampas gaun itu dari tanganku dengan kasar. Aku pun berkata dengan kesal, "Segala sesuatu harus ada urutannya. Aku yang duluan lihat gaun ini. Kalian nggak punya aturan?" Namun, wanita itu menatapku dengan penuh penghinaan dan menjawab, "Gaun ini harganya 376 juta. Mana mungkin orang miskin sepertimu mampu membelinya? Aku ini adik angkat Nicholas Kurniadi, presdir Grup Kurniadi. Di ibu kota, cuma Keluarga Kurniadi yang berhak tetapkan 'aturan'!" Kebetulan sekali! Bukankah Nicholas itu tunanganku? Aku langsung menelepon Nicholas dan bertanya, "Adik angkatmu rebut gaun pertunanganku. Gimana kamu mau selesaikan masalah ini?"

Sepuluh tahun lamanya, bahkan alasan penolakannya pun tak pernah berubah. Hari itu, aku tersadar dari mabuk di tengah angin dingin, lalu meminta pengacara menyusun sebuah perjanjian perceraian. Setelah terlahir kembali, aku memutuskan untuk tidak terobsesi pada teman sejak kecilku, Jacky Halim. Di pesta ulang tahunnya, dia memasang plakat di pintu masuk. Dia menulis namaku di samping logo anjing, dilarang masuk. Jadi, aku sengaja pergi ke Hawai untuk menghindar jauh-jauh darinya. Setelah itu, dia bilang setelah tamat nanti, dia tidak ingin menghirup udara kota yang sama denganku. Jadi aku cepat-cepat angkat kaki pergi dan tidak pernah kembali lagi. Terakhir, dia bilang keberadaanku gampang membuat wanita idamannya salah paham. Aku menggangguk kepala. Tak lama kemudian, aku pun menemukan pria lain dan mengumumkan hubungan kami. Di kehidupan kali ini, aku selalu membuat keputusan yang berbeda dengan kehidupan sebelumnya. Semua ini hanya karena di kehidupan yang sebelumnya, saat impianku menikah dengan Jacky terwujud, wanita idaman Jacky bunuh diri dengan loncat dari tebing. Dia menuduhku sebagai dalang pembunuhnya. Dia pun mulai menyiksaku, sampai akhirnya aku mati dan mayatku menjadi santapan ikan. Di kehidupan kali ini, aku hanya ingin hidup tenang. Kemudian, saat aku merangkul tangan pacar baruku. Jacky malah mengadang di tengah jalan dengan mata merah padam. “Vivi, kalau kamu ikut denganku sekarang, aku akan memaafkan semua lelucon yang kamu buat.”

Now he's mine, so why don't you just step aside like a good girl?" I could not take the blow, so I climbed to the hotel rooftop and leapt off without hesitation.
