"We should return now," he said after a long nod, chuckle and gaze.
Frederick had started singing. This time, everyone was in a dancing mood. The grandmas found suitable partners, and they swayed slowly in a beautiful, old-fashioned dance.
Grandpa and I watched from a corner, enjoying the scene. Grandpa smiled down at his old friends, and I stood staring at Frederick, who hadn't taken his eyes off me since I entered the room.
He was singing a Don Williams country song, "Sing Me Back Home." He did it slower and better. As I watched him captivating the crowd with his talent, I realized that he had brought some meaning to my otherwise somber holiday.
